Wake Me Up When Impeachment Begins

I sat up until about 3 am last night trying to think of a way to illustrate the repeal and replacement plan for the ACA health care in the United States. It’s so ridiculous and unfair to the people who need heath care most. Costs will go from $1,700 up to $14,000 a year for people over 64 who make $25,000 a year. That’s simply not affordable. As an artist who is not employed by anyone and getting older, this really hits home hard. I have multiple preexisting medical conditions. I’m gonna get screwed. An estimated 14 million people will lose insurance in the first year and the U.S. Congressional Budget Office predicts that 24 million more people would be uninsured in 2026 leaving upwards of 50 million people uninsured by that date. People are going to die.

Meanwhile, massive tax cuts for the wealthy and deregulation in multiple marketplaces means the rich get richer while the poor get sick and die. Combine this with the stripping away of funding for women’s clinics like Planned Parenthood and you have a literal recipe for death.

So I sat up until 3 am trying to think of a way to illustrate this and I couldn’t. It’s too depressing. So I drew a sleeping dog. Please call and fax your representatives and tell them to fight the repeal and wake me up when Trump’s impeachment begins.

I need a nap.

BTW: Teen Vogue, who has been incredible as a resource for the resistance has an article that tells you how to use a bot on your phone to fax your reps. I used it. It’s great for anyone who hates to make phone calls but still wants to be heard. Check it out here.

  1. Probably can’t happen until 2021 at the earliest. At this point I’m tired of waiting on Republicans to do the right thing, and there’s really no way we’ll get the supermajority required in the Senate; even if every Senate election in 2018 goes our way, we would only have 60 seats.

Then again, the Democrats really don’t like winning. If they liked winning, they’d have abandoned Third Way years ago.
