Quickies: The end of the meat industry
And why women are more likely to be hurt in a car crash, and a profile of Dr. Jen Gunter
This is the beginning of the end of the meat industry – On the recent evolution and success of faux-meat products like the Beyond and Impossible burgers. Have you tried either, and what do you think of them? Thank you, Donna, for sending this in!
Jen Gunter will tell you the truth about your vagina – An excellent profile of Dr. Jen Gunter, whose new book The Vagina Bible will be coming out soon. You may know her for her take-down of Gwyneth Paltrow’s endorsement of, well, jade eggs for your vagina.
Why women are more likely to be hurt in a car crash – Women are still 73% more likely to be injured in a car crash, even with the 2011 implementation of test dummies that better represent women’s bodies.
I don’t like the Beyond Burger, but I haven’t tried the Impossible Burger, and a lot of reports say it’s supposed to be better. I have tried various meatless sausage and chicken substitutes, which I mostly like as much or more than the real thing.
I’ve had a Beyond (bought frozen from grocery store) and an Impossible (via Red Robin). The Beyond tasted slightly better than a typical veggie burger, but definitely not meat-like. The Impossible actually tasted like beef. The only issue I had with it was that it had the taste and texture of a well-done beef patty. I mean, it probably just fine, if you don’t mind your burgers well-done. Me, I prefer something a bit more on the medium side.
