  1. Hmmm. As a male, and especially white, athlete, Ryan Lochte is given all the licensed irresponsibility of child. Athletes who’s performance lends prestige to others (Olympians, football players perhaps most of all) are indulged and infantilised to a shocking degree. So, in a grotesque sense, he IS a kid.

    I found myself cringing at Lochte’s affect before the whole ‘robbery-vandalism-false report’ biz had even started. It may not be fair, but I think I was reading a shallow, drunk, irresponsible, frat boyish note from the start.
