Quickies: Swatting, Spike Lee, and an MRA tale for kids
- The serial swatter – “There have always been jerks on the Internet who say rude things to women, and Twitch was hardly free of this — female streamers can usually tune it out with help from their moderators. But when Obnoxious started targeting women, around August 2013, it was clear that he was something different, more frightening.” From Rachelle.
- A visual representation of why sexism, racism and classism are still an issue – From Ray.
- Spike Lee: Female students should go on sex strike to combat campus rape – “The director was discussing his new film Chi-Raq with Colbert. Based on Lysistrata, a satire by Aristophanes, the film follows a group of women on the south side of Chicago who decide to fight gun crime by withholding sex from their men. In real life, the film has reportedly inspired a group of 37 women to follow suit.”
- Red Pill, Blue Pill: A tale for MRA children – This made me laugh so hard. From Courtney.
- Cute Animal Friday! I bring you a juggling otter. And a compilation of weird animal babies (the camel is so adorable!).
Man, I just realized how old Spike Lee is now.
On campus rape, what I find amazing is, how many people don’t realize “let them handle it internally” is a fancy way of saying “don’t do anything”. It’s literally no different than when the Church handles child molestation cases internally.
The story about swatting is quite detailed and really depressing. It took a lot of work to achieve very little. He’ll be out again in a few months and a person like that isn’t likely to change.
The best news here is that next time he does it he won’t be a minor. Maybe then it’ll be easier to stop him.
Yeah, that was a rough article to read, especially about how all the police departments had no clue what SWATing was while they happened all around.
You’d think that after so many incidents of it happening, it would be covered pretty thoroughly in training. You’d think so, anyway.
