- Crypto-patriarchy: The problem of Bitcoin’s male domination – Really fascinating article, highly recommended even if you’re not an econ or tech geek.
- The only woman in the room – A new series of articles at medium.com that’s worth checking out. From Heina.
- Dr. Isis outed by Nature senior editor Henry Gee – That was his response to Isis criticizing Nature.
- The new S-word men use to insult women – On why “silly” is a loaded word. From Katie.
“Silly” is a powerful word. I generally like to reserve it for people who are talking about absolutely crazy woo, because it’s so completely dismissive. I’d never considered how it would be used against women, although it falls perfectly into the dialogue of “What I care about matters and what you care about is laughable.” that’s followed women since forever.
Henry Gee outed Dr. Isis and at the same time called her “inconsequential.” Right, that’s perfectly logical.
I think that old-line science journals and for-profit science journals are on the way out. They only survive based on getting lots of excellent manuscripts for free, and they get to pick and choose which ones to publish.
