- Hey, want to buy the rights to Ben Stein’s Expelled. It’s scheduled to be auctioned. (From Simon.)
- Dismantled sweat lodge exposes rift in Christian, traditional teaching.
- Why expert predictions routinely fail and we believe them anyway. (From jes3ica.)
- Surprisingly easy ways to make kids smarter. (From cerberus40.)
I would like to buy the movie for $1 and go all “Office Space” on it.
Expert prediction gone awry: 50 million climate refugees will be produced by climate change by the year 2010. Especially hard hit will be river delta areas, and low lying islands in the Caribbean and Pacific. The UN 62nd General assembly in July 2008 said: “…it had been estimated that there would be between 50 million and 200 million environmental migrants by 2010.”
Did population go down in these areas during that period, indicating climate refugees were on the move? No, population actually gained in some Caribbean Islands for which 2010 census figures were available. When challenged on these figures, the UN now claims that it will be 10 years into the future, and there will be 50 million refugees by the year 2020.
true it is a bit over stated, but there are in fact some pacific islands (atolls) already being impacted and they are beginning to migrate to larger land masses.
Has anyone alerted Matt Stone and Trey Parker about the Expelled auction? Or maybe Matt Judge?
I want a satire out of this.
Mike Judge dumbass.
Expelled is just begging for an MST3K treatment.
I also wouldn’t mind a redubbed ‘Expelled’, in the vein of ‘What’s Up, Tiger Lilly?’ They could get PZ Myers and Richard Dawkins to re-shoot some scenes.
That article about the traditional sweat lodge that was deemed to be the wrong sort of “traditional” (ie. not Christian) just blows my mind, particular as it’s the local Cree people saying this, and then going out and destroying said sweat lodge. I guess the Kool-Aid they got given back in the day must have been extra-tasty! It’s even more ironic that a local Anglican priest wrote to the town council in support of the sweat lodge. *shakes head in disbelief*
How about we all chip in and purchase the rights to Expelled and then release it to the public domain?
I wonder if the winner of Expelled also gets rights to all the unused footage, behind the scene documents, etc. Cause I can’t help but think it would be interesting to buy it and then release a dvd with the full uncut interviews and maybe pdf files of interesting documents.
