Sorry for Any Weirdness

If you were up at a silly (depending upon your time zone) hour this evening, you may have noticed some weirdness here on Skepchick, and on the Skepchick RSS feed. Sorry about that! When Skepchick started, it was a monthly e-zine (I love the ’90s sound of that word), and the blog was just a little side project. So, the blog was in a subdirectory. Now it’s the only reason to visit, so it was useless to have it at

Tonight, I moved things around so that now you can see the blog just by visiting This caused some old posts to be resurrected on the front page and on the RSS, but I think most quirks have been fixed now. All old links should still work, but it would be nice if you update your bookmarks and whatnot to

There are more changes on the way for Skepchick . . . really exciting stuff. Hopefully stuff that doesn’t keep me up late freaking out every 10 minutes because I’m sure I’ve destroyed the site.

  1. Hey Rebecca, thanks for taking (the time.) care of the neighborhood. Your efforts are appreciated!

  2. I’m fine with the change, but what is that ad doing on the side of the screen? When I clicked on it, it led me to this:

Being married yourself, Rebecca, I’m surprized that you allowed an ad for a company or blog championing adultery on your site. I’ve seen too many episodes of CHEATERS to tolerate that on mine!

  3. I was a little taken aback at that, too. Seems like the kind of thing that the xtains would have a field day with…“Oh, lookie! The satanic, godless, immoral atheists are promoting aduletry on their web site!”

OTOH, I like what you’ve done with the site, Rebecca. :-D

  4. Just FYI, the “share the love” images above the comment section are still pointing to image files in /blog. ie. they are broken ;)

  5. My browser kept redirecting me back to from just I had to clear my cache before I could access the site. You may want to suggest that on the redirect page.

  6. I’ve been having problems with since yesterday morning. Pages either take 5 minutes to load or don’t come up at all. Not sure what’s going on. Could be a firewall issue on my side but the problems seem to have started about the same time as the changes.

  7. same here, but we are have some issues with our service so it could be that.

the fcc should have never allowed the comcast/nbc merger…

    because fuck them that’s why.

  8. @Steve D: @mrmisconception:

Sorry for the crappiness! I can’t recreate the issue so I’m not sure how to address it. If you’ve completely dumped your cache, it should be fine. The problem was that for years, there was a redirect from to . . . people with older cached version of the site keep getting redirected to nowheresville.

Are you unable to connect to particular pages, or to the main site, or everything? What browser and OS are you using?

    Sorry again…:(

  9. at work with window me (yikes!) and opera 9.51 i’m not have much of a problem, just a little lag.

at home on our year-old laptop (win7 and latest firefox) i was getting 2+ min. waits. we were having problems, like i said, so it maybe our end but other sites (facebook, cracked, you tube) weren’t causing the lag. some of it came around the time the blag hag quickies article was posted, i just figured there was very much traffic.

i will try emptying me cache when i get home.

    no worries :)
