February 12 is Darwin Day, the time when we all pause to remember a truly remarkable mind that gave birth to a world-changing theory. In the past few years, we’ve celebrated with Darwinian Playlists, Darwinian Valentines, and of course the ever-popular Darwinian Pick-up Lines.
This year, we decided to mix things up by approaching a few of our favorite artists and asking them to create something inspired by the topic “Darwin’s Beard.” See the results after the jump! Hover to see artist comments and click to see the full size.

An awesome celebration of Darwin Day. Seriously. I am in awe.
Hurrah!
This is more embarrassing than the Christmas I prayed for Satan to come down my chimney.
These are all so amazing! What a great start to the day.
@Tracy King: HAHAHA! Awesome.
ausgezeichnet!
“…from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.” Awesome stuff.
@Tracy King: OK, was your picture just a setup for you to make the Satan joke in the comments section?
If so, I totally love you!
so is that like a unicorn humping mars in the surly amy one?
I need an answer to this, the structural integrity of my worldview depends on it.
This is truly awesome, and has made my day. That, and the fact i’m not at work and i’m at home eating cheese and able to come online for the first time in absolute ages.
Wow. Great way to start the day. I am in awe of Tawnya Mendonsa’s Darwin. Any chance it’s for sale?
I spent a good 10 minutes clicking on that beard and being delighted with all the things that came out. :)
I reallly want Surly Amy’s The Psychic print.
I’m ever so pleased to see Squatchy hanging out in Surly Amy’s pic! He’ll be so excited when I go home and show him. And you all KNOW what he’s like when he’s excited… YOWZA.
That was the most fun I’ve ever had pulling things out of someone’s beard. Thanks!
These are amazing. They kind of inspired me to make a Darwin’s Beard doodle of my own:

***As a disclaimer, it is a rough sketch, and not nearly as good as these official entries. Which, if I didn’t mention before, are awesome.
@Expatria:
And Darwin Day just got a little uncomfortable.
@Displaced Northerner:
It will be later today. I didn’t want to ruin the surprise for my friends. I don’t want the blister I got cutting this out to be in vain!
@Masala Skeptic: Hahaha. Me too!
Gary Coleman?
@Elyse: Oh, my dear Elyse. You know it’s more than just a LITTLE uncomfortable. It’s ALWAYS more than just a little uncomfortable with that pervy little Sasquatch around…

There is a hilarious T-shirt on Threadless right now featuring Darwin and Pokemon. ‘Endless Forms Must Batttle’
@Masala Skeptic: Haha me too! I loved the cowboy with the side swagger~! ^^
