Quickies: The harm of psychics, female scientists, and why we don’t read
- Psychics and mediums: What’s the harm? – Great post by Rebecca Hensler, founder of the Grief Beyond Belief group.
- Why are there so few female scientists? – Another post in The Toast’s series Gal Science.
- National Health and Medical Research Council says Australians ‘wasting money’ on homeopathy – From Jack99.
- Serious reading takes a hit from online scanning and skimming – From Sarah.
Apparently somebody skimmed yesterday’s quickies. ;)
That article was tl;dr, though. Of course we skimmed it. ;)
(This isn’t the only example. Notice the #CancelColbert campaign, which basically is outrage at pointing out how outrageous it would be if something like the Washington Redskins happened to another ethnic group. I’ll assume it’s some meta-joke.)
Besides ‘wasting money’, homeopathy also offers false hope to the terminally ill, and keeps those who can be saved by modern medicine but would be dying a century ago from seeking real medicine. Which, like psychics, qualifies as the worst kind of scum, preying on the extremely vulnerable.
