TAM 6 Days Three & Four
I’m currently in the party suite and it is HUGE. I mean, no, huge. I took a video but the Interwebs are slow here so I’m not sure when I can get it online. In the meantime, I’m uploading pics to Flickr. I’ve been Twittering as often as I can, and I see that a whole mess of you have signed up to follow. I hope it’s been fun!
So I guess I didn’t get a chance to blog last night, for which I apologize. The conference was fab, the speakers were interesting, and the SGU interviews have been so much fun. I think my favorite moment was when we were interviewing Phil Plait, and in the middle of it all in walks Adam Savage of Mythbusters. He sat in and we all chatted for awhile. I love Phil and Adam’s enthusiasm for science and skepticism is infectious, so it was a real joy to have them together with my SGU buddies.
Matthew Chapman was a treat, too. He’s Darwin’s great-great-grandson, and such a funny, smart, personable guy. Our interview with George Hrab began fun enough and soon descended into tears, literally, when he brought up the song he wrote for his deceased dog. Ben Goldacre has not surprised me at all by being as awesomely funny as I suspected. I was about to add that he’s a cutie, too, but then I realized that everyone I’ve mentioned so far is a mega-cutie, so there ya go.
And speaking of, I’ll also of course mention Neil DeGrasse Tyson, who was at least seventeen different varieties of RAD. He had a cool vest and an upbeat, positive attitude, and he totally had his arm around me for a solid 45 seconds during picture-taking. His talk on stage was a roller coaster ride past every skeptical topic you could ever want, and in his interview with us he talked all about his long-time love of the skeptical community. Rawk.
One more thing: the SGU dinner last night was a smash, with so many people showing up that we filled the restaurant (about 80 seats I think) and then some, having to turn away a few dozen latecomers. Sorry, guys! Everyone was awesome and so much fun to talk to, especially the lovely lady who bought all the wine. You kick so much ass it hurts.
That’s all I can get to for now, since I should get back across the street to the conference. More to come!
EDIT: Sorry, I meant to also mention that tonight at the party, I plan to have my MacBook set up with Photobooth so people can take candid shots, which I’ll periodically upload to the Flickr: http://flickr.com/photos/skepchick
Also, I just uploaded a funny video of Richard Wiseman to my YouTube channel, so that should be appearing shortly I think! http://www.youtube.com/user/rkwatson
yeah, Geo’s song for Oscar is sad… makes me cry every time I hear it.
I wish I could’a gone to TAM6. Alas, new job, couldn’t take off… but I’m hoping TAM7 is at a similar time and location, and I’m THERE.
