Boston Skeptics in the Pub is Tonight!

Just a reminder that we’ll be at the Asgard in Central Square tonight for the free event. Info here. If you arrive early to eat/drink/etc, please tell them that you want your bill associated with the event. I had a disturbing call from them last night saying they’d suddenly decided to have a $500 minimum to hold the room (I booked it a month ago). They’re supposed to call me back today to confirm that, but just in case, it would certainly help out me (and my bank account) if your order chips away at that minimum.

For those of you in London, there’s an impromptu Skeptics in the Pub there tonight with Phil Plait and Randi! More info here.

As always, don’t forget to check the Skepchick calendar regularly for events in your area, and e-mail us at events(at)skepchick.org if you’d like an event added.

  1. I’ll be ordering some manner of meal there, so hopefully my ~ $15 food bill will help cover for the lack of drinks (and their attendant high cost) associated with my tab.

Let me know if there’s anything I can do by getting there early. I’ve got some time to kill either way.

  2. Is there any technology/software/website where the presentations could be live fed for viewing? And of course at little or no charge… . As for tonight I suppose you’ll just have to encourage MORE ROUNDS and skeptical drinking games.

  3. Ha ha, skeptical drinking games is a great idea! I’m going to use that, James, thanks.

We won’t be doing a live feed, but that’s certainly something I’ll keep in mind for next time. We do have volunteers who will be filming the whole thing, though, and that will go on Google video asap.

Expatria, I’ll be there around 6:30pm to get things set up. I think I’m all set on help, but if you want to come hang out and get your drink on, then please do!

Sam, my bar tab could easily cover the $500 on an average weekend, but it’s a bit trickier with a Monday night. And another thing I didn’t mention is that they might restrict us to a smaller space (I’m very, very pissed at them right now), meaning few people might get in, meaning a lower bar tab. Wah-wah.

  4. Don’t stand down Rebecca!

Take the skeptic’s pub elsewhere if they are being that way. Don’t underestimate yourself as an organizer.

    Make someone else money.

Make a post on here, and on SGU and everywhere that you need a bar in Boston, are there any skeptical Bar Owners in the Boston area.

The bar your at now will rue the day.

I just went to a North Texas Skeptics social dinner, and name dropping that you’d been on my podcast made me an instant celebrity.

    Don’t underestimate your influence.

This is all the way in Dallas, your name carries weight!

  5. mindcore, actually, I’ve just hung up the phone after speaking to the manager and it looks like they’re dropping the $500 limit. Whew!

There might still be an issue with getting the amount of space we’ll need, so this could get interesting . . .

  6. Sorry I missed. I was grading until about 6:30 and too beat to make it out. Hope y’all had a good time.

  7. Mikhail,
Do you want a room full of dead skeptics?

anyway, hope you’re all having fun out there.

  8. Speaking of dead …

What’s the difference between being in a room full of young, male, adult, science geeks and a room full of young, male, adult, fundamentalist Muslims?

The science geeks don’t have to wait for death to be in the company of 72 virgins. :)

I hope the meeting was enjoyed by one and all and that the turnout was tremendous.
