Quickies: Homeless Jesus, stereotypes, and voodoo dolls
- Statue of a homeless Jesus startles wealthy community – Somebody called the cops on Jesus.
- The Representation Project: Rewrite the story – Strict gender stereotypes harm us all.
- Someone finally notices that John Scalzi wrote a book with a 50/50 male/female character split – “I didn’t make a huge deal about it when I was writing THD; I just reminded myself to write women characters. I also didn’t generally talk about making an effort at that parity after the book was published, because I didn’t think something as simple as accurately representing male/female ratios in the real world (and how they would logically be in the universe I created) was a big deal.”
- The usefulness of voodoo dolls in studying blood sugar and aggression – My spouse would not at all be surprised that I’d stick a ton of pins in a voodoo doll of him when my blood sugar is low.
The John Scalzi link is timely — I’m nearly out of Scott Lynch to read, and I’m not ready to return to the Realm of Invisible Women. I know what I’m reading next. :)
So, Scalzi makes roughly of his side characters women, and someone emails him wondering why ALL of his side characters are women.
Yep. Sounds about right. Sigh.
