If you live anywhere near the British Isles, and if you have any interest in Christmas, godlessness, humanism, science and/or comedy, you owe it to yourself to buy a ticket to Robin Ince’s excellent show Nine Lessons and Carols for Godless People. It’s playing for multiple nights, but everything has sold out except the last super-special big show they added at the Hammersmith Apollo.
I’ll be attending at least three of the dates, though I won’t tell you which because that way buying a ticket will be like buying a KinderEgg, but instead of delicious chocolate you get Josie Long, Dara O’Briain, Richard Dawkins, Ben Goldacre, Simon Singh, and more and instead of a cheesy plastic toy you get ME! ME! No assembly required.
Anyway the point is you should totally be there.
Speaking of Christmas and heathens and such, here’s a fun song for you: Andy Prieboy’s The Fate Awaiting Thee.
I *so* badly want to go to this! Unfortunately a few days before Christmas is not the right time to try to traverse to Leeds to London transport system. I shudder at the thought of the motorway traffic and uber packed trains.
I guess this is down to the UK’s London-centric focus, or my lack of hard core dedication to godless comedy… think I’ll blame the London thing though.
Satan gets all the good dungeons!
I sure hope they make a recording. I’d love to see this.
I’m going on the Saturday.
I was gutted missing last years.
Your kinderegg analogy is severely flawed. The kindegg experience is supposed to give you three things at once, and you’re offering either two or six plus. Plus one of the things is supposed to be surprise at what plastic toy you’ve gotten, not that you haven’t received a plastic toy at all.
Now excuse me while I play with my new plastic Rebecca Watson that I got in one hell of a large kinder egg. Man was I surprised!
I typoed! And there’s no editing anymore? That’s just not fair!
I’ll be there! I’ve got my ticket for the Friday show at the Bloomsbury, which sadly means Alan Moore won’t be in my Kinder Egg. However, this box under the tree sounds a lot like Brian Cox when I shake it, and my stocking has a distinctly Richard Wiseman-shaped lump in it. I look forward to seeing whether anyone got me the Rebecca Watson I always wanted, too. Does it come with batteries?
I’ll be there on saturday 19th. Anyone fancy meeting up at a pub beforehand?
Actually, because it’s a Saturday, I might be pootling around London during the day. I quite fancy visiting Highgate Cemetary, or perhaps the Thames Barrier… anyone up for London strangeties?
I think I killed the comments. It’s almost as if there’s something wrong with a trip to see corpses and flood defences.
