- Campaign against Ireland passing a law against blasphemy – From Matt.
- Vaccination celebration – Need a good science-based ritual of childhood? Throw a party when your child is vaccinated!
- As flu spreads, generic drugmakers wait for call – “Even as the World Health Organization acknowledges that swine flu will spread worldwide and could evolve in unpredictable ways, it hasn’t ordered generic versions of Tamiflu, the most effective anti-flu drug.”
- The world outside of World of Warcraft is now superfluous – “Gamers at MIT have built a self-contained life pod in which to play World of Warcraft.”
How far does Ireland wish to carry their law against blasphemy? Saying “God-damn”, “Jesus-tap dancing-Christ”, or how about simply talking about Christianity or the church in a derogatory way? What of different denominations? To Protestants, Catholics are blasphemous and vice-versa.
I read this at The Observer:
The Minister for Justice, Dermot Ahern, proposes to insert a new section into the Defamation Bill, stating: “A person who publishes or utters blasphemous matter shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable upon conviction on indictment to a fine not exceeding €100,000.â€
Blasphemous matter is defined as matter “that is grossly abusive or insulting in relation to matters held sacred by any religion, thereby causing outrage among a substantial number of the adherents of that religion; and he or she intends, by the publication of the matter concerned, to cause such outrage.
And to take a line from Nelson:
Blasphemy is a victimless crime; like punching someone in the dark!
From the WoW article:
It features a built-in toilet, three days worth of food rations, fresh water, and a small cookstove.
Why would they want this when they can continue freeriding in mom’s basement with endlessly respawning hot pockets?
Re: Anti-blasphemy laws
(Please visualize me holding a placard and shouting)
We’re here! We sneer! You’re superstition is wierd!
Re: Anti-blasphemy laws.
Gee, isn’t your God big enough to defend himself from a “mere human?”
If not, he’s not much of a God.
If he is and doesn’t “smite” me, he must not care about what I said.
If that’s so, why do you care so much? :-D
One thing that article forgot to mention is that once you step into the WoW chamber you automatically aquire a permanent debuff called “Hopeless Loser” that lowers all your stats by 75% and summons an angry mom to beat at your door and nag you every 10 minutes. It also makes you immune to the spell “acquire girlfriend”. This debuff persists through death. gg nub lrn2gooutsideplz kthxbye
*I know girls also play WoW, but none of the girls I interacted with played all day. I knew many dudes who did though.
“Campaign against Ireland passing a law against blasphemy”
Hmm, a bit too wordy and negative. Let’s go with something punchier and more positive, like “pro-blasphemy campaign”.
@Steve: I’m pro-blasphemy and I god-damned vote.
Shouldn’t the WoW pod have a microwave instead of a stove? It also needs a refrigerator for soda with a freezer for hotpockets and frozen pizzas.
hey! I live in the world outside of World of Warcraft!
