Skepchick Quickies 5.1
- Genes have key role in autism – “The Nature study highlighted one common genetic variant which, if corrected would cut cases of autism by 15%.” Thanks to everyone who sent this in. Heard any reactions from the anti-vax crowd?
- Faith Fighter 2 – Apparently the original Faith Fighter game pissed a lot of people off, so the makers have released a kinder version. Hemant covered this as well. From Infinite Monkey and Tyler.
- Kenyan women ban sex over political reform – “Activists in the East African nation are urging women to withhold sex for a week to protest the growing divide in Kenya’s coalition government.”Â
- Swine flu conspiracy theory – Oh, like you didn’t see that one coming.
- Famous psychic says swine flu is no biggie – Phew! What a relief. Definitely check out the rest of the Weird Things site too, it’s full of fun smart  snark.
- It’s Friday! Bring on the cute animals. Today’s theme is confused animals. This confused snake is doing a great job of turning itself into an ouroboros. And this kitten is deeply confused/insulted by a fan. Both from Steve, the Sultan of Cute. Last but not least, we have a confused baby squirrel who needs some help to get over a wall.Â
Hoping someone can use this info to develop an autism vaccine because a) it’d help a lot of people and b) it would drive Jenny McCarthy nuts.
Looks like Lysistrata’s ideas are alive and well in Kenya.
Any bets on how soon the antivaxxers will twist the genetic study into saying that vaccines cause a mutation predisposed to autism?
Its a conspiracy by big pharma! If they make a vaccine/cure for this autism, that will cause alztimers. Then, they will develop a cure for that, which will cause cancer! Its all part of big pharma’s plan to keep us sick! CALL CNN! CALL THE MILITARY! CALL A HOMEOPATH!
The autism vaccines causes MMR!
And an OPV make you Indigo !
Awww, look! that snake is trying to explain a benzene ring! Thanks Mr. snake. How did you know my o chem final is next week?
That snake… I wonder what it feels like to digest part of your own body? The closest parallels are probably extremely bad hangovers and being forced to sit through a speech by phelps.
@Finch: Really? My first thought was of autofellatio. That’s the closest to a human orobourous I could think of.
