Might be a good idea to ask some Jewish people what they think of this. This sounds like a case of cultural appropriation, which could result in some Jews feeling that the skullcap’s meaning is being trivialized. Alternatively, they might appreciate the support. Cultural appropriation is far from clear cut. But I think this deserves a bit more consideration, in any case.
Ryan Bellerose did it a couple years back.
See, if only they’d stuck to just regulating theology, nobody would have bothered to complain. However, once you mess with the revenue stream, expect trouble.
On the Fliers in Cologne story, I was reading this one ealier in the week:
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-35251167
The horrified response of the other Syrian refugees to the outrage on NYE needs to be more widely known.
The “other Syrian refugees”? It turns out the rapists in Cologne weren’t even Syrian.
Sure. It was a quick comment and I was going to say “Arab” but I’m not sure even that covers it.
I guess I was working from this story:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/germany/12086473/Suspects-in-Cologne-sex-attacks-claimed-to-be-Syrian-refugees.html
Certainly Syrians have been prominent among those expressing outrage.
AFAIK out of over 600 reported assaults, one Iranian and one Iraqui have been detrained. I do not claim to know the nationality of all 600+ and it probably matters little.
You and I would probably both be classed as Americans to many of the perpetrators – ironic to be sure! Similarly, in the Bali bombings, the bombers thought the victims were Americans.
That reminds me of how all carbonated sugary drinks are called Coke in the South. “What kind of Coke?” “Pepsi.”
“earlier”
Is anyone surprised that Pope Benedict’s brother was a child molester? I mean, given the former Pope’s sympathy for pedophile priests…
