Quickies: Inherent misogyny, mansplaining, and nail polish
- Blinded by my privilege – From the Women in Astronomy blog, a personal story of how to become aware of one’s privilege.
- Evolutionary anthropologist: “Misogyny is not an inherent human trait, online harassers are bitter baboons” – “Johnson points to research indicating not only that misogyny isn’t an inherent human trait, but that more female empowerment also leads to less aggression in a society–in his words, “patriarchy hurts men as well as women.””
- Another day, another mansplainer – With the wonderful line, “You seriously want women to believe you’re not an asshole and a potential threat? Start by shutting up for a minute and actually listening to what women are saying.”
- Gal science: How nail polish works – “Let’s start with the chemistry of regular nail polish, because it is made of things like explosive cotton and fish scales.” How can you resist?
Nail polish is made of gun cotton?!
That’s the coolest new thing I’ve learned in quite a while and might I say it’s totally fucking metal.
I liked the article on the nail polish. Very interesting chemistry :)
Recipe for man-tear cheese??
Speaking of mansplanations, there’s this washichuwitko on a former tribal president’s Facebook page (I so have to teach him how to block users.) who just called me a ‘hang around the fort apple’, apparently because I recognize the concept of political borders?
