That would have been great. Though; honestly, why did anyone cry at up? The couple had a long and wonderful life together. They were happy and loved each other. Why the tears?
@tempestbrewer: That was a miscarriage? Shit, I thought the doctor was telling them that one of them was infertile. Yes, I had a little lump in my throat but no tears.
Tears from me. My mom just died three months ago, too early, and I was there in the room with my dad when she passed. It’s been making me think a lot about me and my own wife. We’re just getting old enough now to *really* know that life doesn’t go on forever, and no matter how happy we are together it breaks my heart a little to know that one day one of us will have to let the other go.
On the other note, I assumed it was infertility, too.

Granted, the condensed time went kind of fast, but it showed the couple converting a room into a nursery and setting up a crib, cut to the sobbing in the obstetricians office. People, at least in movies, don’t obtain a crib until after the “good news”, so I think we were meant to conclude that she was pregnant.
Oh, I have to disagree here … Pixar does a great job at entertaining and is excellent at the craft of digital animation, but Wallace and Grommit have MUCH more character – both in the form of the animation and the script (e.g., when, at the end of an episode, Wallace finds out his would-be love interest does not like cheese, and he pleads, “Not even Wensleydale?”)
(PS: Thanks to SB for informing me in on the fact that the pic doesn’t actually link to a video :P)
I’m with you. I have no idea. But I haven’t seen the movie yet.
I LOVE Wallace and Gromit (Curse of the Wererabbit was awesome!)
In the same style (same people?) is the movie “Flushed Away”. I love watching that one with my 3 year-old daughter. I’ll never think of slugs the same way again.
But that’s not the point. What the frak are you guys talking about?
Because it was timed, executed, and well written to the point that we could actually feel close to arrays of animated tiny boxes of light being projected on the big screen.
My husband and I both found the film rather depressing, but I still thought it was very good. Still worth seeing.
It was different from the now ususal animated stories. The cute charaters were not ‘cutsie’ and even the sadness had reality to it.
And I prefer stories that don’t go where I expect them to.
My 9 yr old loved it and couldn’t see why we found it depressing.
Although I found it weird how at the end of the final confrontation with that mad scientist, when he died, the characters just cheered “yay!” (metaphorically) Granted, he tried to kill them cold blooded, but I wish they would have done him a proper send off, instead of just a fall.
Also, I really liked the landscape. So reminiscent of the country I used to live in, Venezuela. Well, they modeled the landscape after it, so no surprise there. Plus, they even modeled Angel Falls right down to the tiny little details!
Okay, I need to abjectly apologize to everyone when I questioned your tears. I am very sorry. I just watched The Iron Giant last night and cried like a baby. I am very sorry. Please forgive me my stupid.
Ahahahaha. Brilliant.

@Gabrielbrawley
Because she died is enough reason for me. They did enjoy a great life together but parting is parting and that’s heart wrenching for me regardless.
Additionally, he didn’t get to do the one thing that he always wanted to do for her, so it’s a little bittersweet when you look back on it.
I almost hucked a nasal loogie when the silent filmed acted out a miscarriage in that opening sequence too. So sad :'(
Wooo!!! Wallace, Gromit, and Feathers McGraw!
I haven’t seen Up yet but any movie could be made better with the inclusion of Wallace and Gromit.
@Noadi: Wooo!!! Wallace, Gromit, and Feathers McGraw!
Bonus points for knowing the name Feathers McGraw.
Isn’t this the second time already this week I’ve given you some props in a comment thread? ;-)

I feel dumber than usual. I have no idea what this thread is all about.
I’m waiting for the DVD on this one. Reviews were great though.
Tracey, any news on your side of the pond about a new W & G movie?
@Sam Ogden:
But are you dumb enough to qualify for a seat on the Texas State Board of Education?
@pciszek:
Easily.
@Gabrielbrawley: That’s what I thought too.
Tracy, I love you.
Pictured: Every one of nightmares since grade 8.
Not Pictured: Sanity.
@Sam Ogden:
Right there with ya… nooooo idea whatsoever.
It is funny because the squirrel is dead. Man, I hate squirrels.
Sid wanted to go see the movie. Rebecca made him clean the gutters instead.
@JOHNEA13:
Sid better get used to that. I think he doesn’t mind. Unless that wasn’t a euphemism.

WAAA-HAHAHAHAHAhAHAHA!!!
Woohoo, Teek wins the Internets!
Brilliant!
I have never seen any Wallace and Grommit so I can’t weigh in on that.
But I loved UP and cried a LOT…. it hit a bit close to home.
Pixar, in my book, is amazing!

Three words. Cone of Shame.
“I do not like Cone of Shame.”
Oh we’ve all worn the cone of shame at some point in our lives ;)
@Outsider: And not always around our necks…
