Attention Austin Area Skeptics!
To all Skepchick readers who live in the Austin area or know someone in the area looking to hook up with a group of kick ass critical thinkers, science people, and skeptics:
Taysia Glover, who is currently studying Architectural Engineering at the greatest university on the planet (the University of Texas at Austin), is getting the ball rolling on a skeptic’s group based in Austin, and she wants to get the word out to the masses.
Here’s the the thing: Austin is where the Legion of Doom (a.k.a. the Texas State Board of Education) meets to carry out its evil deeds, and having another organized group of rational thinkers in the area might help in efforts to keep that in check. Plus, Austin is one of the coolest cities in North America, and would be a great place for all manner of skeptical meetings and conferences, and a good local group is always beneficial for planning those types of things. So even if you’re not from Austin, show Taysia some love, and do what you can to help her and the Austin skeptics get started.
You can contact Taysia at: [email protected]
Contact the Atheist Experience show – they can get the word out to a large group (http://www.atheist-experience.com/) if you want to get some local release (other than this blog, that is)
Yeah, the Atheist Community of Austin is one of the most active atheist groups in the country. The Atheist Longhorns at the University of Texas would also be pretty filled up with skeptics and the like.
Yes, the University of Texas at Austin is the greatest public university on the planet … I miss Austin, but they finally kicked me out of the state after I got my third degree … All I can say is “yee’ haw” to all the taxpayers of Texas :)
Hello All~
Thank you for the truly wonderful welcome! I am so very grateful to everyone who has contacted me. I have gotten a lot of wonderful ideas, and I look forward to hearing more.
As soon as I am finished with finals (yay!) I will be working hard to arrange the first meeting for January.
Thanks for all your comments, especially the ones about UT being the greatest (public) university on the planet. I couldn’t agree more. However, I am not really interested in making the group a campus/student thing. I work for some really religious people who could make or break my chances for grad school… But I would like to recruit from some of the school groups, so I will contact them.
I can’t wait to hear from more of you!
