Jimmy Kimmel Mocks Psychic Gary Spivey

Last night, Jimmy Kimmel asked “psychic” Gary Spivey to fill out an NCAA tournament bracket (that’s college basketball, for those not in the know) live on his show. What Spivey doesn’t realize is that the games had already been played, and many of the teams listed on the board don’t even exist, like Flanders. All the actual Final Four teams were on the board. SPOILER ALERT: Spivey didn’t manage to get any of the Final Four teams, though he did think Flanders would make it.

  1. Seriously? I never know what to expect on April Fools Day.

I hadn’t paid attention to Gary before, I had to look him up. I thought the whole thing was a send up or at least that was someone making fun of a psychic named Gary Spivey. But as near as I can tell, he is a “real” psychic and that was him on the show!

What’s more amazing is that people believe him. He has a “Wow! I’m getting away with it!” expression in almost every picture on his website.

  2. At first I thought no way this is an act or set piece joke. Then I read the wiki article and still thought Gary was a parody comic performer. Then I went to Gary’s retreat web page and found that wow, he’s a real deal psychic and spiritual teacher I guess. I’m conflicted now, should I appreciate that Gary was willing to make a joke of himself or be embarrassed for him that perhaps he didn’t realize what/who the joke was.

@MrAscii: I find it hard to believe he takes himself seriously.

  3. Whoa! What is up with that hair? In the video still at fist glance I thought that was Jimmy Kimmel in a wig but it’s this jackass’ gimmick.

How could anyone take this guy seriously?

  4. He looks kind of like an Elvis impersonator with a fuzzy volleyball on his head. It’s making me giggle quite a bit.

  5. I am thrilled because now I know, that despite doing so poorly on my own NCAA picks, I’m not the only one who had Flanders going to the final four.

  6. Hey, I live in Flanders!
But last time I checked, we didn’t have a team in the NCAA though.

  7. I never would have thought in ’98-’99 that the dude from the Man Show would do such intelligent, pointed comedy as he has. Every once in a while I catch clips from his show on huffpo (a good funny video and nip slip aggregator you guys may have heard of) and some of his stuff blows me away. He’s anti-censorship (the unnecessary censorship bits are really worth a look if you haven’t seen them), pro-reason, and pretty intelligent. His takedown of Jay Leno ON JAY’S SHOW during the whole conan thing, as silly as that was, was great too.
