Valentine Do-Over

Sorry guys! A couple of the entries were accidentally left off the ballot! I redid it, so if you already voted, vote again (what can I say? I’m from Chicago, where we vote early and vote often!)

The ballot is on the right hand side of the page, under “recent comments”, and the entries are here:

  1. The voting site is a bit weird. Couldn't find a poll add-on for WordPress?

Anyway: tiddlywinks, where the heck did you find that swan photo? I spent a lot of time searching for pretty much that exact one, but I was only really able to get close-ish, not spot-on like yours.

  2. Alicia-

Jill and I will be running contests every month and are definitely looking for feedback!

We will certainly take your request for more art-related contests! The cards were great!

  3. Joshua: it IS an add-on for WordPress. It's right there in the right-hand sidebar, quite a nifty little plug-in.

And I've voted but I don't want to skew the public by saying for whom!

  4. Awww, crappit! I missed the deadline to submit.

I even drew up a sketch last night in the hopes of having time this morning to finish. I reeaaally wanted to make some Darwin themed Valentine art. Stupid work getting in my way!

My vote goes to tkingdoll. Kudos to all, though.

I also vote for more art related skeptic contests and games, because otherwise I’d probably still just be a non-commenting, non participating reader. Plus, there needs to be more science/skeptic art out there, right?

  5. I'm guessing Rebecca wrote herself in, despite having no entry! Can we PLEASE have more of these fun things though. I came a weeee bit late to get one together, but I love using my powers of snark and photoshop to make love to/for everyone. Maybe crap-based superheroes? Oooh, or seeing what the most incredible thing we can get our gullible friends to believe is a real scientific discovery. Cheerful evening all.

  6. Just curious … does anybody know if the “in my pants” one is a reference to Brotherhood 2.0? They’re so weird, in a lovable sort of way.

  7. “Just curious … does anybody know if the “in my pants” one is a reference to Brotherhood 2.0? They’re so weird, in a lovable sort of way.”

I’ve never heard of brotherhood 2.0, but David Letterman use to say “… in my pants” after something else.

  8. "I’ve never heard of brotherhood 2.0, but David Letterman use to say “… in my pants” after something else."

Samuel, Brotherhood 2.0 was a year-long project by two brothers (Hank Green, ecoblogger, and John Green, young adult fiction writer) where they eschewed all text-based communication and did a 5x-a-week video blog. At one point they discovered that many book titles get way funnier if you add "In My Pants" (or "In Your Pants") to them, and it became a running gag on the blog.

The Sound and the Fury In My Pants

The Age of Innocence In My Pants

Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret, In Your Pants

The Call of the Wild In My Pants

    Fahrenheit 451 In My Pants

The Sun Also Rises In My Pants

    Starship Troopers In My Pants

Gone With The Wind In My Pants

I think you see the potential for humor here … ;)

  9. I'm preeeeeety sure the "in my pants" thing goes beyond some random video blog that nobody's ever heard of.

I'm also pretty sure that, like the "in bed" game with fortune cookies, it predates the popularity of the internet.

  10. "I’m preeeeeety sure the “in my pants” thing goes beyond some random video blog that nobody’s ever heard of."

LOL, I'm sure it does. I'm just saying that's where I first heard about it. They've had several of their blogs be top-viewed youtube videos, and the most popular ones have 500,000+ views, so at least a few people have heard of them. ;) Especially since both of them (particularly Hank) have inquiring minds that would fit in well here, I wondered if there might be some overlap of readership/viewership. Not a big deal. :)

It makes for fun title-skimming at the bookstore anyway!
