Quickies: Racism in Medical Algorithms, Russia Calls Trump a Lying Liar, and Kamala Harris Takes a Stand

  • Bot Bias: Study Finds a Medical Algorithm Favors White Patients Over Sicker Black Ones, the Root: “An algorithm used by major hospitals and healthcare providers misjudged how sick black patients were compared with their white counterparts, allowing healthier white patients to get additional medical supports more often.” h/t Muscadine
  • Russia: Trump’s Baghdadi Victory Lap Is Nothing But ‘Propaganda’, the Daily Beast: My newsfeeds were overfilled with news about the US assassination of IS caliph Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, so I thought I’d share this odd take on the whole thing from Russian state news. They apparently doubt that al-Baghdadi is dead at all, and the Russian Defense Ministry is basically saying that Trump is lying about Russia’s help. Nothing all that surprising, really, but an unusual article among the TOO MANY ARTICLES about this topic. Seriously, finding non-Baghdadi articles for this week’s Quickies was kind of a nightmare.
  • Not With The F@#$ery: Kamala Harris Backs Out Of Presidential Forum After Trump Receives Criminal Justice Award from HBCU, the Root: In Kamala Harris’s words, “Today, when it became clear Donald Trump would receive an award after decades of celebrating mass incarceration, pushing the death penalty for innocent Black Americans, rolling back police accountability measures and racist behavior that puts people’s lives at risk, and then learned all but ten Benedict students are excluded from participating, I cannot in good faith be complicit in papering over his record.”
