Scientology Ship Quarantined with Confirmed Measles Case

The Freewinds were never truly free.

It is being reported by multiple news sources that a cruise ship has been quarantined in Port Castries on the Caribbean island. The cruise ship with the name, “Freewinds” is reportedly owned by Scientology.

Scientology is a religion that is known for its unwavering love of UFOs, sea men, and its belief and teachings that one can fight, and rid one’s body of illness and diseases by becoming, “clear.” Becoming clear is sorta like meditation and sorta like talk therapy but mostly, it’s very, very, very expensive to achieve. An achievement clearly not reached by all members of this ship.

As reported by CNN, Scientology, as of this writing, is refusing to comment on the situation but their website lists the ship as a, “religious retreat at the pinnacle of a Scientologist’s spiritual journey.” A now bumpy journey that has certainly been extended.

Fitting that a pay-to-play, isolationist religion with an anti-science and anti-medicine agenda, would find itself quarantined in the ocean with a vaccine preventable infectious disease – on a boat with the word, “FREE” in its name. So much irony. So many germs.

May this serve as a reminder to rational folks that measles is a preventable disease that is roaring back into society thanks to the myths and out-right lies being spread about the unfounded dangers of vaccines. Measles is preventable by getting a simple vaccination, not with mind control. Vaccines still don’t cause autism. Get vaccinated. Get your children vaccinated.

It’s also a pretty good idea to simply avoid any and all Tom-Cruise-ships at this point or you might end up feeling like this painting I did. Which was originally intended as a commentary on the US democracy but I think it works in this scenario too.

PS: It’s sad that after all these years we are back here, still telling people to get vaccinated. The situation has only gotten worse since back in the early days of this blog when we were doing the free vaccine clinics. But I am still hopeful that we can spread health facts instead of germs- if we work together.

PPS: It’s great to be back on Skepchick. I missed y’all.
