The Fear Babe is now available for pre-order at Amazon, BarnesandNoble.com, and from your local independent bookstore. I promise I’m not vain enough to put my image on the cover for no good reason. It’s a parody of the cover of The Food Babe Way, magnifying glass and all.

With foreword by Dr. Kevin Folta, The Fear Babe:  Shattering Vani Hari’s Glass House, due out on October 29th, is now available for pre-order. Dubbed “the book the organic and natural food industries don’t want you to read”, I co-authored this 434-page tome with UK native and “Banned by Food Babe” veteran Marc Draco, and my favorite southern skeptic and “Bad Science Debunked” writer, Mark Alsip. Think of it as a reference on all of the most ubiquitous food myths of our day. From aspartame to azodicarbonamide, and Golden Rice to gluten, the book covers virtually all food-related buzzwords, using the Food Babe as a framework to debunk misinformation and examine why it propagates despite mountains of evidence against it.

Excerpt from the book’s jacket:

Vani Hari, better known as The Food Babe, is a famous “food activist”, blogger, and New York Times Bestselling author who abhors biotechnology, thinks sugar is “toxic”, and is famous for berating Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte for (gasp) not containing “real pumpkin” and bullying Subway for using a so-called “yoga mat chemical” in its bread.

But the Food Babe is just one symptom of a larger problem, one head on a seemingly immortal misinformation hydra. If you’ve wondered about iffy, unscientific claims about food, or questioned whether there is any truth behind the self-styled “world changing” food activist’s assertion that “there is no acceptable level of any chemical to ingest ever”, look no further. Not for the faint-hearted, this a systematic, science-based, dense yet comedic debunking of myriad popular myths about food, using the all-too-popular Food Babe’s claims as a framework to teach the reader critical thinking. So if you want to arm yourself with a misinformation radar, to be able to smell BS from a mile away, look no further. And most of all, enjoy the journey.

From the official press release, issued this morning:

Beware of false prophets, warns an ancient book of wisdom. On Oct. 29, Kavin Senapathy, Mark Alsip and Marc Draco unmask one of the biggest charlatans in the food space in “Fear Babe: Shattering Vani Hari’s House of Lies.”

“Vani Hari, aka ‘Food Babe,’ claims to care about food but the products she hawks reveal her real interest is her wallet,” science writer Kavin Senapathy said. “Her loyal following need to know that she’s actually perpetuating myths about food, GMOs, pesticides and more.”

Her co-author agrees. “The Food Babe is earning money selling items with the exact same ingredients that she tells her followers to throw out,” self-professed “science popularizer” and writer Mark Alsip said. “We set out to detail the extent of her hypocrisy so that science doesn’t get a bad name.”

All three authors have a passion for sound science. “We have to put a stop to pseudo-science celebrities misleading the public about health, safety and the environment,” said science defender Marc Draco. “That’s what this book is all about.”

  1. Pre-ordered! I hope it’s as fun as reading about your adventures trying to keep famous food celebs honest. I also hope I will actually be able to confront those that are anti-GMO and quickly counter the lies they’re parroting to me.
