Calling all feminists, artists and all around smart and talented people! There is a very cool, very progressive, very inclusive event happening this weekend in the great city of Los Angeles and if you anywhere near, you should attend. It’s called the Blk Grrrl Book Fair and you can bet your sweet ass I will be there. Why? Because everyone should be there.
The event is hosted by Teka-Lark Fleming, Zoe Blaq and Skira Martinez. It takes place at CIELO galleries/studios in Los Angeles.
Fair will be held on Saturday, March 7 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Cielo
Galleries/Studios located at 3201 Maple Street in South Central Los Angeles 90011. For more detailed information or press inquiries please contact Teka-Lark Fleming at [email protected]
The Blk Grrrl Book Fair combines the worlds of feminism, film, visual arts and literary arts.
It is being planned with a collaboration of feminist and literary art groups.
It is inclusive of all genders, races, sexual orientations and generations. We have women curators who are in their 70s and women curators who are in their 20s. It is actively anti-racist, anti-colorist, anti-heterosexist, anti-misogynist, anti-ageist and anti-ableist .
The focus is feminism. Our belief is that the freedom of women, the most oppressed class, even within socially and economically oppressed groups, is the key to the
liberation of all people.
Women are underrepresented in the arts and publishing.
This event will correct that.
The Blk Grrrl Book Fair will be a demonstration of what inclusivity looks like.
From Teka-Lark Fleming on the event:
There will be 50 vendors including Make/Shift Magazine, Writ Large Press, LA Review of Books, Women Center for Creative Works, PM Press, Radical Woman, Kaya Press…pretty much everyone in small press LA and the Indy world will be there.
More info from The LA Weekly here.
I will have a table repping my handmade Surly-Ramics and The Los Angeles Women’s Atheist and Agnostic Group.

See you Saturday!
