Quickies: Mansplaining, “political correctness,” and the cutest cosplay

- Mansplaining explained by an expert – “Author Rebecca Solnit admits that even penning a book titled ‘Men Explain Things to Me’ doesn’t stop some men.”
- 5 doomed, hilarious efforts by the religious right to disprove science – From criticaldragon1177.
- Colleges mad with political correctness over campus rapes – Right. Yes. Political correctness is clearly the problem, not sexual assault. From mrmisconception.
- Tiny Padme is the cutest cosplayer – Who doesn’t need some cuteness in their day?
Amanda,
So which of those attempts by the right to destroy science do you think is the most insane.
I liked the one about the Loch Ness monster. Kent Hovind believed in fire-breathing dragons for the same reason. Yep, fire-breathing dragons.
The sad thing is that George Will probably believes the scenario he describes isn’t rape because she didn’t keep fighting him off. The old Warren Ferrall “if you have any reason to think she might want to have sex with you, you can ignore the no” rationalization.
The most offensive was the notion that being raped is a ‘coveted status’. Leaving aside the obvious affront to reason, this indicates a lot about the mindset of a right-winger. I’ve seen some of these right-wingers talk about how wonderful it is that the unemployed don’t pay taxes. Think about that.
I really enjoyed that piece on Rebecca Solnit. AND….. it had the added benefit of making me realize how long it’s been since I’ve listened to Dead Can Dance because she looks SO MUCH like Lisa Gerrard. #winwin
