Jenny McCarthy at DSW Tomorrow

Everyone here already knows that Jenny McCarthy is famous these days mostly for promoting the dangerous and continuously debunked idea that vaccines cause autism, as well as related misconceptions concerning both vaccines and autism.

And everyone already knows that she continues to get a platform on television and in the mainstream media, regardless of how many times other people speak up about how critical it is for we as a society to marginalize people like Jenny McCarthy.

And yet! I love DSW so much. I’m not very good at being a typical girly girl, but I love me some cheap-ass shoes. I’ve been a DSW member for something like the past decade and I squeal with delight whenever they mail me a new gift certificate so I can go get yet another pair of Chucks from the discount rack.

And so it is with a heavy heart that I inform you that DSW is sponsoring a promotion with Jenny McCarthy tomorrow at their Union Square store in NYC:

Miri Mogilevsky is already in the Facebook comments helping DSW see what a dangerous quack Jenny McCarthy is. If, like Miri and me, you love discount shoes and hate anti-science fear-mongering, maybe you could join in there or email DSW at [email protected].

Chili’s experienced a similar problem recently and they handled it brilliantly. Let’s hope DSW follows suit. So do it. Protect the children, and the shoes.

  1. For whatever reason, most people can’t even see this post. But Rebecca and I can, and can confirm that it hasn’t been taken down or anything.

    1. To be fair, Voyager did play loose with the science, even by SF standards. (A crack in the event horizon? Seriously? How does that even…wait, wha? I mean, seriously? How? Sorry, a system error has occurred. *hangs*)

And the entire character of Chakotay was researched by looking up woowoo sites that these days are why so many Indians spend so much time deleting crap people we don’t even know put on our walls.

Of course, all that’s the writers’ fault.

  2. I can’t see the post either. When I follow the link, I get this message: “Sorry, this page isn’t available
The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed.”

I then looked up Designer Shoe Warehouse on Facebook and found their page, but I still can’t see the post.

    1. I see. Thank you, sondosia.

And it’s a relief to see Mulgrew was not knowingly spreading that nonsense after all.

  3. I dread April. There’s so much moral panic about autism out there, and April is a time to remind us of it. The fence-sitters go in and ‘teach the controversy’ (in the most Ken Hamian way, of course).
