- Washington DC Imam welcomes gay Muslims to worship, marry – Imam Daayiee Abdullah, “is thought to be the only publicly gay Muslim leader in the Western Hemisphere.” From Critical Dragon1177.
- Autism-Lyme correlation debunked – From Caitlin.
- Makeup company Bare Minerals uses sexist signs at a women’s race to promote products – Because clearly, street harassing a woman into buying your product is the best marketing campaign ever. Ew ew ew. From Moniqa.
- Wikipedia’s sexism – If you’re a man, you’re just a novelist. But if you’re a woman, you’re a woman novelist and can/will get moved onto your own separate list.
In the pictures, it’s hard to make out the word ‘beautiful’ (or maybe I need new glasses), so I thought the signs said, “You look all sweaty”, which is a peculiar thing to say to someone running a marathon.
Damn, the petition is closed. I wanted to say that my mom stopped running because of the harassment she was put through and I pretty much stopped doing exercise in public for the same reason, so shame on them.
Bare Minerals offered an excellent apology. It warms my heart when petitions and Internet activism achieve progress. :)
There better be some actual consequences to the idiots in that wikipedia debacle, or they’re not seeing my money again.
That NYT article on Wikipedia kinda gets the story wrong. There’s no concerted effort to remove women from the general “novelists” lists, but there is a movement to get rid of the “female novelists” subcategories. Here’s a blog post explaining it.
