- Prince Charles’ charity lobbied government to water down criticism of homeopathy – From Zoltan.
- Jessica Valenti on “the angry feminist” – From Kal.
- To this day – A beautiful and moving video about bullying and its long term effects.
- Taking responsibility for our communities – Jerks are everywhere, including in ecology.
The article on taking responsibility for our academic community certainly has parallels for the skeptical and free thought communities. After about a year of absence I went to our local SitP last night and had to suffer a blowhard sexist libertarian who, during the course of the evening, repeatedly objectified women, found a way to minimize child abuse and slavery, accuses President Lincoln of being an incompetent mass murderer, and insult lesbians and those of Asian descent. While we were eating an attorney friend of mine stopped by our table to chat with me as she was leaving the restaurant…, good thing she didn’t have her wife with her I suppose. A couple of us made efforts to point out the inappropriateness of his remarks but he was a supremely confident retired TV and radio news guy who dismissed us as over reacting PC progressives. I’m sorry to say that I’d much rather show this Harris, Dawkins, Rand and Paul loving guy the door instead of taking on the task of confronting his dinosaur thinking at every meet up he attends.
The “To This Day” video resonates so, so much.
