American Atheist’s Con and Women in Secularism. Get those apps in!

I announced last week that I was going to pay the cost of admission for some women to attend the American Atheists National Convention in Austin, Texas and for some men to attend the 2nd annual Women in Secularism event in Washington, DC.

And I am totally doing that.

And I have some good news!

First of all, I have finished the first batch of Surly-Ramics fundraiser necklaces. The designs look like this:

and like this:

American Atheist Surlyramics

You can purchase them in my Etsy shop. Here is a direct link to the section they are posted in.

50% of the proceeds from these necklaces will go into my fund to pay for admissions to secular and science events for people who otherwise can’t afford it. AND you get an awesome handmade necklace if you help out by buying one.

Necklaces aren’t your thing? No problem. You can still help out by donating directly to my fund by going to SurlyGrant.com and clicking on the donate link.

And that brings me to the second bit of good news!

A lovely reader who goes by the name, THE WOLF, has offered a $400 matching grant. $400 will help pay for one man and one women to each event! And if I can get enough donations to match that gift then that means I can pay for at least FOUR people’s admission.

How awesome is that! Many thanks to the WOLF for helping out. And many thanks to those of you who have already donated. You all give me great hope that we can move past this period of negativity and get back to learning and sharing science and rationalism with an even greater and more diverse secular community.

So who wants to join me at these events?

You do? Well, if you want to go to one of the conventions mentioned above but can’t afford the admission costs, go fill out an application now!

I will have more info about what makes these events I have decided to sponsor important, in the coming week. Until then, thanks again for all your support and for being super-swell, decent and probably very good-looking people who are also smart.

;)

Last week I experienced a surprising outpouring of public support online. It was a wonderful break from all the nasty internet harassment we have been dealing with. I am grateful to everyone who took the time to send me a nice message. You guys are why I don’t give up.

With love and ceramics,
