6 health myths…
A glass of milk will help you sleep ??
The problem was in the translation..
“:..Even thousands of years ago, the Talmud associated drinking milk with sleep.”…SHEEP !! milk was associated with sheep!!. God-dammed honkies.
There is no link on the last item. Also, monoclonal antibodies are ridiculously cruel things to produce. Not that they shouldn’t be used, but if you are in the lab, don’t go ordering these things like they grow on trees. It’s more like they grow on painful tumours on small mammals.
I always thought the air-dryer vs. paper towel argument was about reducing waste, not how sanitary they were.
Damn. I figured “cunt” was one of those epically old Indo-European words since Czech has a very similar word with the exact same meaning — “kunda”. After a tiny bit of research I find out this is probably a borrowing from German or Latin. Oh well. That lecture was awesome.
re: Oprah Magazine busting health myths — even a broken clock is right twice a day.
I didn’t crunch the statistics, but the fact that the numbers mostly seem to cluster around 1/3 implies some sort of systematic bias. Could it be?
.
On the other hand, the comments. Oh, the comments. Be sure to take your ACE inhibitors before reading.
In case that was totally opaque, I was talking about the women in publishing link…

You’re fine! It’s great when commenters share info.
Thanks for the link, Amanda! Eve Siebert will be appearing on the Skepticism and Humanities panel w/ Massimo Pigliucci, Jenna Marie Griffith, Joe Nickell and, well, me at Dragon*Con. I promise that every word that comes out of her mouth will be absolutely vile.

The number of comments on that “6 Health Risks” article that start with “I believe” is depressing.
