Urgent Anti-Vax Ad Update: More help Needed!
Friday I posted an action alert to help stop an anti-vax ad from running in Times Square on April 28.
This morning I learned on Orac’s blog that the ads are already running! And will continue to run once every hour for the next 2 1/2 weeks!
People are in Times Square RIGHT NOW and they’re seeing the CBS Jumbotron ads to visit Mercola and the NVIC where they will learn that vaccines cause developmental delays (including, but not limited to, autism), cancer, and death.
Unfortunately, I thought we had more time to move on this… but this is urgent. Hundreds of thousands of people are seeing this ad every day that it runs.
Please sign this petition at Change.org telling CBS Outdoor to take the ads down.
Tweet @CBSOutdoor and @CBSTweet with the hashtag #VaxCBS to tell them how you feel about them running this ad.
Then, you can send an email CBS Outdoor’s board of directors and CBS Network executives asking them to stop running the ad IMMEDIATELY.
More information is available in my previous post and at Respectful Insolence.
And pass it on!
Tweeted! Emails to follow! Facebook posting made! Will walk by later to check out the insidious thing myself.
This JumboTron business even got the attention of Wired’s GeekDad blog. http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2011/04/dangerous-anti-vaccine-ad-should-be-removed-from-times-square-jumbotron/
Despicable! (the ads that is). Petition signed and thanks for the heads up! :)
Posted a link with a brief description onto Facebook. Hopefully more people will see this and tell CBS to stop this nonsense.
I signed it.
That’s the best I can do, I’m afraid :(
Got ‘er done-e-e-e! ;-)
Tweeted and written. Incredible.
I, for one, do not welcome our new Jumbotron overlords. Fuck them in their electronic ears.
Signed. Tweeted. Emailed (with refs).
This shocks and worries me. I’ve signed, tweeted and emailed (even though I am from the UK and have never been to Times Square). Thanks to Skepchick for making it easy to protest.
Could we convince those CBassholeS that the antivax ads will be more effective in homeopathic form? Like, run them on the jumbotron, but just 1 pixel wide? ;-)
FYI I have pasted the body of my email into my blog http://josephinejones.wordpress.com/ and would be happy for anyone to plagiarise it if it would help you make a similar complaint.
From an email list:
April 13, 2011
Mr. Wally Kelly
Chairman and CEO
CBS Outdoor
405 Lexington Ave., 14th floor
New York, NY 10174
Dear Mr. Kelly,
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) objects to the paid advertisement/public service message from the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) being shown throughout the month of April on the CBS JumboTron in Times Square, New York. The AAP and many other child health organizations have worked hard to protect children and their families from unfounded and unscientific misinformation regarding vaccine safety. Vaccines are safe.
By providing advertising space to an organization like the NVIC, which opposes the nation’s recommended childhood immunization schedule and promotes the unscientific practice of delaying or skipping vaccines altogether, you are putting the lives of children at risk, leaving them unprotected from vaccine-preventable diseases. Diseases like measles and pertussis (whooping cough) can have serious consequences, including seizures, brain damage and even death. From January 1 through December 31, 2010, 9,477 cases of pertussis (including ten infant deaths) were reported throughout California. This is the most cases reported in 65 years there.
The AAP’s 60,000 member pediatricians urge you to remove these harmful messages, which fail to inform the public about the safety of life-saving vaccines. Please do your part to help reassure parents that vaccinating their children on schedule is the best way to protect them from deadly diseases.
Sincerely,
O. Marion Burton, MD, FAAP
President
I’m not getting updates right now with new updates going on so I missed this letter.
Amazing. Simply amazing.
Yet, still no response from CBS.
Maybe we need to put in more direct terms: CBS Responsible For Child Deaths in 2011 might work as a headline…
