Skepticism
Skepchick Quickies, 4.29
- New book, Unbelievable, covers the work of the Duke Parapsychology Laboratory. (Thanks to Steve.)
- UCF research yields link that could help prevent spread of HIV. (Thanks to Croobie.)
- Space explosion is largest ever seen. (Thanks to Infinite Monkey.)
- Elyse alerts us to some Mormon missionaries that we’re totally okay having knock on our doors.
To the LDS Church producing a calender full of pictures of missionaries without shirts is grounds for excommunication, while Senator Chris Buttar’s Utah Boy’s Camp, aka the Mormon Gulag, isn’t even worth investigating.
Also notable for today’s Quickies is that a certain Skepchick is making a guest appearance over at Overcompensating!
I’m about half-way through the interview with Stacy Horn about “Unbelievable”, her book about J. B. Rhine’s research into the paranormal at Duke University.
So far, it sounds like “Gullible” would have been a better title.
For a short and more balanced account, you might check out James Randi’s Encyclopedia http://www.randi.org/site/index.php/encyclopedia.html
Stacy Horn says that she doesn’t really understand quantum physics and non-locality, but obviously this helps explain psychokinesis and telepathy.
Don’t worry! It’s all true because Freeman Dyson once said that he thinks that telepathy is real.
Can’t write anymore. My mind is vomitting.
@durnett: My “mind vomit” moment came when she said that Michael Persinger’s demonstrated that ghosts cause EM activity (instead of the other way ’round). I was listening to it in the car at the time, gripping the steering wheel very tightly and grumbling obscenities to no one in particular.
Think that should be “Space explosion is furthest ever seen”.
@Steve: Why do you do send these links in? Is it that misery loves company, or did I do something bad to you?
(Shut up. I know it is a false dichotomy.)
I don’t know… aren’t antibiotics for bacteria and microbes? Not viruses?
