Skepchicks in the Lounge with Phil Plait!

I’m pleased to announce that we have finally released another episode of the Skepchick Podcast! This will be the first in a series called Skepchicks in the Lounge, in which the Skepchicks gather together for drinks and conversation with someone interesting – in this case, we discuss the International Year of Astronomy with Dr. Phil Plait of Bad Astronomy and JREF!

Yes, this episode came way late, for which I apologize. It is obvious to me that there are greater (evil) forces at work trying to prevent the podcast from hitting its stride, since we encountered technical problems that forced us to re-record the entire show and then our lovely editor and amazing Skepchick A was nearly murdered by a particularly vicious bacteria.

So, we’re still a bit wobbly on the whole podcasting thing, and hope to straighten things out in order to achieve maximum awesomeness in the near future.

As always, you can listen and subscribe to the Skepchick Podcast on iTunes, you could subscribe to the Libsyn RSS, or you can just click here to listen to the mp3 in your browser. Enjoy!

  1. Skepchicks in the Lounge with Phil Plait!

I’ve always suspected Phil would make an effective murder weapon. The Skepchicks were a surprise, though… I was leaning toward Colonel Mustard.

  2. I’ve got to remember to bring earphones to work so I can listen to these things (instead of coworkers discussing the latest herbal supplement, for example).

  3. I brought my headphones to work a long time ago. My co-worker tends to listen to christian music a lot.

The podcast was great and I am looking forward to more. I just have to learn the voices. I could tell Rebecca, Phil and Sam, but that was about it.

  4. @Mordicant:

Yeah, two male voices among a sea of female voices makes it easy.

In case anyone who has listened is wondering, the plan was to have George Hrab music (as well as several other cool things) included in the ‘cast. We even talk about the songs at one point. But as Rebecca mentioned, A was nearly assassinated by some really nasty stuff, and was unable to fight death and do a lot of the extras, too.

    Hope no one was lost.

  5. I thought it was great, too.
Suggestion: Each participant introduce him/herself with a sentence or two, so that listeners can recognize voices.

  6. @Mordicant:

I’m the one whose dishes Sam is peeing on in the shower.

Next time you’re listening just ask yourself, “Does that sound like the voice of a woman with peepee dishes?” Yes = me, no = not me.

  7. Looking forward to listening if things slow down this afternoon.

@Elyse: How long do pee-pee dishes take to prepare and is asparagus involved?

  8. Other things you can do while showering:
    1. Wash the dog
    2. Wash some clothes.
    3. Water the Plants.
    4. Scrub some veggies.

  9. Wow, I had the bug girl, bugger, buggerl pun going through my head last night.

And I like the Skepchick Clue theme there. I always wanted to create Clue: Special Victims Unit. Colonel Mustard, in the ass, with a candlestick.
