Welcome to 2009 everyone! I hope you’re all recovered from your hangovers New Years celebrations! Â Today’s question is a two-parter:
What part of 2008 are you glad to be done with? What part of 2009 are you most looking forward to?
Glad to be done with: Selling my old and buying my new house
Looking forward to: Throwing myself into all the projects with my kids that suffered due to selling my old house and buying my new house.

I can’t think of anything. 2008 wasn’t all that bad, from my personal viewpoint. World events whizzed by but my life at the end of 2008 wasn’t much different from my life at the end of 2007.
No more President Bush.
Glad to be done with another set of semesters.
Looking for forward to teaching my first classes (really, just labs) at the university.
Not glad to be done with a ten year relationship.
Cautiously looking forward to being single and in the dating pool for the first time in my 20’s.
2008: Don’t know.
2009: IYA!
Oh, wait! Glad to be done with the AI 12.12 and Twilight threads. Thank you, Rebecca, for turning them off. Sometimes it seemed like the Recent Comments list had nothing but those two in it. I guess everything else got pushed down off the end.
Yeah, as @spurge said, Bush is pretty much the only thing I’m happy to see gone. I really lurved 2008 overall.
In 2009, right now I’m most looking forward to my trip to London in a few weeks. After that I’ll be looking forward to a bunch of other trips. So in a nutshell: the travel!
Travel is great.
I got to go to Hawaii in 2008. One of the best trips ever.
I want a do over.
I hate “me too” posts, but I gotta say I’ll miss Bush not at all and I look forward to Obama.
I also look forward to being smarter. Every time I look at old code I can help but gape at how stupid I was back when I wrote it. This leads to my theory that I get more intelligent all the time.
I’ll be glad to be rid of those countless times I wasn’t having an orgasm.
Countless.
2009 should be worth while to see how much more geek subculture permeates mass-media.
Countless.
@davew: “This leads to my theory that I get more intelligent all the time.” That’s by design, right?
I’ll have to totally agree with your theory given that fiddy thing on the horizon in 09.
2008 wasn’t bad for me. I would have like to have had more consistent work, but I can’t change that now. Also I would have liked to have known in advance that the boss I did end up with in August was only going to screw me over in the long run and fire me before the holidays. I would have put money away in an attempt to not be broke, like, within a week of losing the job.
I’m excited because this month I start going back to college to finish my degree, so yay, 2009 = Chelsea with a diploma!
Glad to be done with George Bush, looking forward to Barack Obama.
W.
Obama.
Losing two jobs.
Having no “real” job.
My old upstairs bathroom.
My new upstairs bathroom.
I’m going to a miss the high value dollar, though. I’m told by smart people that massive inflation is coming in 2009.
I am so glad the election is over. I never again want to hear the word vet used as anything other than an abbreviation of where I take my dog for shots.
In 2009 I just want more fun, less stress.
2008: numerous sleepless nights putting together my fashion design portfolio for my senior year
2009: looking forward to graduating and seeing my collection walk down the runway :]
I’m glad the violence in my neighborhood has settled down and that we most likely have a renter for our current house.
I’m looking forward to moving to a place I can walk down the street at night.
I’m glad to be done with honours. It was a tough slog, but ultimately worth it. Well, I guess it’s real worth is yet to be seen when I eventually find a grad placement I like.
In 2009 I’m looking forward to doing some more traveling, the US this time, after I save a suitable amount of money. But the interim will involve living somewhere I hate, so I’m not particularly enjoying that.
What part of 2008 are you glad to be done with?
*The first two months after I stopped drinking (new allergy med sez no drinkie-drinkie) were brutal.
*When my dog tore her ACL
*The time I wasted knitting a sweater that was too small for me and that I ended up unraveling.
What part of 2009 are you most looking forward to?
Buying stuff with gift cards
TAM 7!
My third anniversary in April
Fangirl movies like Star Trek, Wolverine Origins, and The Watchmen
Teaching more nursing students in clinical “rounds.”
Holiday 2009 cards featuring Feeferdog and Bob Cat in a hilariously cute pose. (Clue- Caption most likely will read: “I haz pressent for yoo!”)
I am glad that I am almost done with a semester of school. Looking forward to going to college.
Done with? All of it.
as for 2009, anything would be an improvement.
i am not looking forward to summer. fuck summer.
2008 was great for me. i hope 2009 is more of the same.
I’m one year closer to finally knowing how much my ex wife will owe me in unpaid child support. Last I checked it was like 20k. Since she is only supposed to pay about 1500 dollars a year for three kids I’m kind of curious what it will finally end out at.
