Three quick things

1)  Drinking Skepchickally San Francisco totally rocked harder.  People, seriously.  San Francisco has the best critical drinking crowd.  We were at The 500 Club, hosted by the gracious, funny and cooooooool psdbny.   About 30 or so of us showed up to try Pangalactic Gargleblasters, and just enjoy the general greatness of like minds.  We cheered the new Energy Secretary choice, toasted Karen Stollznow’s impending ascension to Chief Executive Officer and Editor of the Australian Skeptics, and agreed that science, and science fiction, rule.  Geekery abounds, y’all. Coolest drink EVAR!

2) I’m about to fly home for Drinking Skepchickally San Diego.  Who’s with me?  If I could stay out late last night and still be ready to bring the pain tonight (along with Carr2d2, Tim2P0, and Tang)… I’m sure you can drop by for at least one Buzzed Aldrin.

3) Although this isn’t strictly the place for this, I got tagged with an internet meme.  I’m the sort that doesn’t do memes, doesn’t do forwarding, etc.  But this one was kind of cool.  I had to go to the 6th page of my Flickr photostream, look at the 6th photo, and blog about it.  At the time I wrote this (but not anymore,) that photo was this one:

 A & Evo

That’s me, half-dressed, at Dragon*Con.  I’m with Evo Terra, who I visited last week in Arizona.  He runs Podiobooks.com, and I’m a total podcast junkie, especially podcast fiction, so this was kind of like me meeting (and hugging) my pusher.  We’d just met that night, and he couldn’t have been cooler about me crashing his party and insisting on bartending.  Evo sometimes comments here at Skepchick, and is (in my experience) a great guy, good friend, and all around bon vivant.

I got tagged by my friend Sheila, who happens to be Evo’s spouse. If this were any other site but Skepchick, or I were a different kind of girl, I’d say that couldn’t have been just coincidence.  Of course, it was just coincidence.  And I’m not a different kind of girl.

  1. SO much fun! Sad I didn’t get to talk more to everyone. That dry ice is fun!
    Come back soon!

  2. That looked like a lot of fun!
    Damn… I should have come.

Any plans to visit San Francisco again?

  3. Oh holy crap, he’s the podiobooks guy? I am such an addict, too.

Hm, and now I’m wondering if they make Tang packets- like those Crystal Light “just add to your water bottle” ones. Except with Tang packets it would be “just add to vodka.”

  4. Indeed… fun was had… it was great meeting y’all, even though like psdbny said, I don’t think I connected with everyone.

Let’s do it again sometime… say in San Jose?

  5. It WAS a rockin’ good time. And I DID stay later than I had planned, physics exam be damned!

    :-)

@Kaylia_Marie: Haha… I vote for Palo Alto. Of course, it’ll have to be early since all the bars here close at 11…

  6. Heck we could do it at somewhere like Dave and busters… there is a bar, there are games, but there is also semi-pvt rooms where people could talk and mingle and such.

    Just a thought.

    Maybe in… January? Anyone?

  7. I third the idea for a san jose or palo alto meetup!

I too am in the middle of finals week and couldn’t work up the energy last night to drive all the way to san francisco (and deal with parking etc). Palo alto and san jose are so much closer and easier for me.

  8. I am so made that I could not make it.
Now that I have completed my last final I vote for a drinking skepchickally – SF 2 very very soon.
