God Bless Us, Everyone!

And of course, by “God” I mean “the Universe” and by “bless” I mean “not kill” and by “everyone” I mean “everyone but my enemies.”

Merry Christmas to those of you – theist and atheist alike – who celebrate the day. The rest of you, enjoy your Chinese food!

Jody, aka Denver7m, sent us this lovely e-card. Click to embiggen!

I got some rad guitar pick earrings from ShanaLogic. My mom told me she had a long, probably embarrassing conversation with the very sweet owner of the site. Thanks for helping her out, Shana! I love my new indie-artist-made stuff.

Here I am with my new earrings:

Did anyone else get good swag? Post links to pics in the comments!

EDITED TO ADD THIS BONUS:

Currently watching the Sesame Street Christmas Special, which has the funniest sequence ever, involving Oscar the Grouch getting the living snot beat out of him. Here it is thanks to YouTube – skip to 7 minutes in and watch through to 8:30 or so:

Stay tuned for an Afternoon Inquisition coming later today, for those of you wanting further escape from family.

  1. My son uses the remains of my credit card as guitar picks; I wonder if I could sell shattered credit card earrings… Are those stars in the shoulder in formation of some kind of omen?

May the elves at Mattel come with fun toys. And by “elves” I mean the Chinese underage slaves in those sweatshops.

  2. Love the earrings! I got some pretty sweet jewelry as well, including the caffeine molecule necklace that was posted in a prior thread (although I got it a month before that as an early gift, so HA, I’m awesome!). But namely I got an engagement ring to go with the band I’ve been wearing with adoration for a year and a half! WOOT!
Also, I got the Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver pen with psychic paper pad which shall travel in my purse with me everywhere I go… You know, in case I have to fake an identity or something.

  3. As an aside, I love the way Matt Ridley, who wrote GENOME and the AGILE GENE ( originally entitled NATURE VIA NURTURE ) amongst others in the field of evolutionary biology, refers to God: genomic organizing device. It’s Ridley’s more “active voice” version of Dawkins’ blind watchmaker ( page 40-42 of Nature VIA Nuture ). Basically, this a starting point in his explaining that most genes can expressive multiple proteins and it’s the cellular environment and even the environment beyond the cell that can interact with and influence a gene and it’s expression of a given protein.

  4. Yay SS Christmas! I grew up with that one…and really never understood why Oscar was thrown, bodily, out of the building by centripetal force…why oh why do they pick on him so? =D

Also, the gift of the magi thing at the end always gets me…*tear*

  5. @mrsepp: Congratulations on the bling!

@viccro: I have no idea why the clips on YouTube are blasting the Sesame St. special as worst ever. It totally rocks! Just look at Oscar flying through the air. It kills me every time he goes crashing through that one wall.

  6. I got a gorgeous brass sextant and a telescope. I have achieved Nerdvana, and I’m sitting in it with my new copy of the D&D Player’s Handbook (4th edition).

There are doubtless others out there who think they have solid nerd cred, but the phlebnerd has all of them totally pwned. Return to your basements and watch Gossip Girl, PretenderNerds — I will summon you if I need you. Which I will not.

Cool, I got those for all three of my kids for stocking stuffers. I really hope that they get bored with one of them quickly so I can have it.
