HAS Meet-Up Reminder, and The Experience is Over

Don’t forget, the Houston Area Skeptics will be meeting tonight for drinks, food, and a talk on alternative medicine. Plus, there will be a special guest onhand to address the group on UFO research and various other skeptical topics (hint: she’s a Skepchick Calendar model).

See all the details here.

And on a sad note, Mitch Mitchell, the drummer and last surviving member of legendary band The Jimi Hendrix Experience has died. No cause of death was immediately available, but I’m guessing he saw the Country Music Awards last night, and decided it was time to check out.

At any rate, listen to a few Hendrix tunes today and pay attention to Mitchell’s awesome drumming.

  1. Farewell Mitch.

I’m sorry, but I have to ask (a legitimate, agenda-free, only-wanting-to-know question), why the dig at the CMA? Did the CMA and Mitchell have some kind of ongoing tiff or something? What happened on the awards show?

  2. @SicPreFix:

It’s just a joke; the idea being Mitchell, who was part of this amazing, groundbreaking fusion music scene of power jazz and sublimely chaotic drumming mixed with out of this world guitar distortion rock, would get a look at the watered down bubblegum pop country music and be so distraught he’d want to end it all.

But as always, if I have to explain ’em, they don’t go into the act.

  3. I thought that the HAS meeting was a great success, especially the discussion on alt med. I look forward to more meetings and hopefully expanding the role of the HAS in the skeptical community.
