Chicago September Meet-up

Hey there sexy Chicago readers! Let me first say that I love you guys! Seriously, you guys rock. Our meet-ups just keep getting better and it’s because you guys are always bringing the awesome with you.

Unfortunately, I have some bad news (or maybe good news depending on whether you actually like me)- tomorrow I’m not going to be able to make it to the afternoon of skeptical rad with you guys. I’ve had some issues come up at the last minute, and while I was hoping to get things squared away in time for tomorrow, it’s just not happening. I’m not pleased, but it is the will of FSM, and I must accept it.

The good news is that there is still an amazing lecture at the Field Museum that I hope lots of you are still going to attend. I was really excited about it. Please report back to me on how great it was.

If you hadn’t planned on going to the lecture, but have nothing else to do tomorrow afternoon, I suggest you go! You don’t need me there to have a good time and get edumacated (and whoa, Firefox accepts “edumacated” as a proper word!)

For those of you going, you can use this thread as a place to organize where you want to meet-up tomorrow.  My thought would be to find a spot outside the lecture hall to gather once it’s over.  Someone can bring a sign that says “SEXY MOFOS” and you can gather underneath it then head over to Grant Park together to discuss everything you learned and play frisbee.

I hope you guys have a great time tomorrow. It’s going to be a beautiful day.  Bring extra wine and drink it for me.

Oh yeah… and YARRRRR. I sentence me t’ walkin’ on t’ plank and no rum for a week.

  1. I never thought that being this close to Washington DC would be this annoying. I’m about a :90 minute drive one way to the Smithsonian – just long enough to be a major PIA to go do or see anything.

Sometimes, I’m a little jealous of you guys/gals that are closer to civilization and intelligent life forms than I am. I spent many a fun afternoon at the Field Museum – I’ll be there with you all in my thoughts. Hoist a rum (or a beer) to the eastern horizon in my honor, will you, Mateys?

  2. Arrrgh! ‘Tis sur’ly a bummer that our pirate queen can no’ attend the evolution shindig tommara!

I’m no sure were the hall of lecturing may be in the museum, but I volunteer me fat ass to be the center of gravity for people to gather ’round. Just look for the bearded scallywag wearin’ the olive green cap with a big red “A” on it.

I’ll hang ’round the main hall entrance for about 1/2 an hour after the end. Please post an “Ahoy” comment if ye be planning on goin’ tommara.

  3. @bug_girl: Is Elyse’s baby malfunctioning? I hope not. That is some seriousily scarying shit. I hope not. I don’t ever want anyone to that sukc.s

I’m not sure what adcabe means but yes, it would make us smile.

    4 women though… that’s not bad.

  7. adcabe=advance. That is so hard to type. Are there only 4 skepchicks? This feels like a much larger community. Through a tangled skein I view you.

  8. Maybe but i have a big smile on my face right now. Okay. I need to know this as a father. Is Moose okay.? No jokes, no smiles. After bug girls comment I have been worried. I can’t he;p it I’ m a father.

  9. Okay, good, very good. Now I can relax and enjoy the wonderful “spiritual” journay I am on. Oh, I hate that word. I wil not be mizing another drink. I have acheived anirvaina. I am hanging with Kurt. For you children he was a great. ( hell he was the best rtrabadour) for you boomer (my parents) he wsa better than Lyndon jognson. No wrong. wait. that guy from the beatlles who was shoot win I was a gid.

  10. Paul, John, Ringo, Georg. tha’st it John Lennon. I Thnik tha’ts right. Kurt Cobain was baetter than John Lennon. Or at least he was to om Gen X soul.

  11. I am paossibly a little tiney pit drunk. I am going to sleep now. I will check back tom orrw. I send my love and skeptical joy to you all.

  12. @Gabrielbrawley:

OK, I think I missed a few things.
    (1) “Paul, John, Ringo, Georg. tha’st it John Lennon.” How exactly did Gabriel make me into one of the Beatles?
    (2) Is “anirvaina” some kind of spiritual enlightenment or the CiB you convinced 4 women (at once!?!?) to take part in. I guess it could be both….?

  13. Gabriel, you might be our new mascot.

Elyse, a couple of the Ohio skeptics and I were talking about trying to make a huge Midwest party of it and come to an upcoming Chicago meetup. Maybe we’ll make it sometime this winter :)

  14. @Gerg: The things I type about when I am drunk. Very red faced right now. No not at once. Over a lifetime.

@Jen: Sounds like a cool gig. Does it pay well?

  15. Not gonna lie….I almost always LOOK for Gabriel to see if there is a drunken rant somewhere.

…which reminds me: drunk texting has become the new drunk dial. I had an amazing one last night:

    “I am ridfddcuu56ly dqnlunk.”

It is HARD to text while drunk.

  16. @Elyse: Wow, two fans. I am on the fast track to superstardom. Or a fan and a stalker. Watch out David Letterman I’m shooting for your job.
