Comment o’ the Week: Old Testament Style

So I missed last week because I was busy. I’m busy this week, too, but I’m going to muddle through because I am committed to You, the Skepchick Commenter. And also because I have a few minutes to kill before the Thai food gets here. Yes, I am also committed to You, Delicious Pad Thai.

This was another great week with gads and gads of comments (do you people ever shut up? No? Good.). You know what would make my job easier? If you see a comment you like, go on and quote it in your own comment on that post and somewhere in your response right “COTW.” Just a suggestion. Okay, on to our winner!

This week’s choice comment was posted in response to writerdd’s review of the Hallelujah Diet, a vegan Christian’s dream come true:

PseudonymNo Gravatar // Jun 3, 2008 at 12:55 am

No hippies are going to make me give up my locusts and wild honey.

Pseudonym wins for giving me the image of a patchouli-soaked Fundamentalist wrestling sticky locusts out of someone’s mouth. I’ll be honest: it’s a little sexy.

Pseudonym, your prize is the ability to upload your own Gravatar, free of charge! You (and everyone else, actually) can head to, sign up with the same email address you use here, upload an image to your account there, and it’ll automagically appear here. Congratulations!

  1. Cool! Now I have a little piccy to show off my inner me. But how do I get a cool one like you guys, with the neat artwork?

  2. Congrats to you Pseudonym! I won the CotW once and the memory of it still warms my heart to this very day. This, incidentally, is not just a post to make sure my avatar works… perish the thought!

  3. Woo! Thanks, everyone!

OK, OK, I get the hint. Let’s see if this avatar works…

  4. Oh, beautiful new avatars, folks, well done! As for the special Skepchick Blogger Avatars, those are custom-made by our very own Jill. She gave one away in a contest before, so keep your eye out and maybe she’ll offer that kind of deal again.

  5. By the way, since I’m the star of this thread, the teapot might require some explanation, since it’s a picture that’s quite special to me.

Yes, it’s the Newell teapot. However, the reason I used it was because of the odd colouring.

Graphics programmers know this zen moment when a bug in their program causes a cool effect. Benoit Mandelbrot called it “the computer bug as artist”. This is the first bug-as-artist image that I ever made that I felt was good enough to keep. So now I’m sharing it with all of you.

  6. I think mine was one of the last comments to be featured on the sidebar before the COTW, some smart remark to a quiz where I’d said “situations get uncomfortable around ME”, but it obviously isn’t funny any more without the context … anyway, I really like the whole idea of the COTW, so thanks!
