Let’s do it again, Chicago!
The question everyone was asking as I left Whiskey Road last month was, “Are you going to do another?”
The answer is YES YES YES!
How about you guys meet me on April 26th at 7:30pm at Galway Arms. I really loved Whiskey Road last time, but there were some requests for some place maybe a little quieter and/or less crowded. I can’t promise either with this new place, but as a compromise I am willing to let you have your dignity and not subject anyone to any more Guitar Hero.
To recap:
April 26, 2008
7:30 pm
2442 N Clark
Chicago
Add it to your Facebook and/or Myspace calendars and spread the word!
I know there is another skeptics meet-up that afternoon. I don’t intend to keep doing these on the same day, but that’s just how it worked out this month.
zOMG!!! Yesyesyesyesyes I think I can make it to this one yesyesyesyes!
Ahem. I shall consult my schedule of events in order to determine whether I will be in attendance. Good day!
Fantastic! I hope to see you there!
At the last one, Hemant and I put the head count at about 30. Hopefully we will be able to get an even bigger crowd this time!
ah fer feck’s sake, i’ll be at a wedding reception, or i’d be going. i’m fairly new to this awesome site, but i bet my wife and i would have a blast meeting up folks from here!
:)
galway arms is so cool!
What exactly goes on at these meet ups?
I’ve just recently started reading the blog and I love the idea of meeting other readers.
btlzu and cmicek, first let me say welcome to Skepchick! I hope that it exceeds all expectation!
Second, bltzu don’t worry if you can’t make it this month, there will be another one May 17 (did you hear that everyone?) and then I’m going to have a birthday bash skeptical extravaganza in June for sure. My goal (and Rebecca’s assignment for me) is to make this a monthly thing. While I’m certainly disappointed that you won’t be able to make it this month, I hope that you’ll be able to make it
Third, cmicek, right now, what happens is we get together and have drinks. People comment on how they are surprised and disappointed to find out I’m not actually a cartoon in real life, then we laugh, tell jokes, tell stories, talk about skeptical and quasi-skeptical and non-skeptical things, buy another round or two or four, and take some pictures. The last meet up we had Guitar Hero, but it turned out that our readers kind of suck at Guitar Hero so we’re not doing that two months in a row.
Tell you what- you show up and if you don’t like us we’ll refund your money minus the cost of food, drink and tip.
fourth, why don’t Chicago-area skeptics have easier handles?
Okay, so Chicago is not too far of a trip for me, plus I have a good friend there I’ve been promising to visit for a year now and haven’t – so I’m going to try to pop in for a meetup in the future as well. Probably not before the May date, at least, but I’ll there sometime!
Cleveland, people. Why no love for Cleveland?
I’ll be there. It’s a nice group of people and fun was had by all last time.
Maybe we take a LITTLE time to talk about a group protest/letter writing campaign to respond to State Representative Monique D. Davis’s angry rant about the dangerous and destructive nature of Atheists.
