Monday, March 24: Boston Skeptics in the Pub!

Elyse seems to think that the Chicago Skepchick readers and Friendly Atheists can rock harder than the East Coast. I say we put it to the test: a mere two days after their meet-up, I’ll be hosting the very first Boston Edition of Skeptics in the Pub! The info:

WHEN
Monday, March 24 2008
7pm

WHO
Mike the Mad Biologist!

WHERE
The Asgard
(a few blocks toward MIT from the Central Square Red Line T stop)
350 Massachusetts Avenue
Cambridge, MA 02139

Part social event, part entertaining lecture, all skeptical fun. You don’t even need to be a drinker to come and enjoy!

I even set up a little site at bostonskeptics.com so we have a place to post future events (I plan to do one of these every month). If you are in the Boston area and are in the mood to take over prettifying bostonskeptics.com, let me know and I’ll happily turn over the keys (after I determine you’re not insane [or more insane than me, really]).

Boston Skeptics also now has a Facebook group and there’s a Facebook event page where you can RSVP! Add me as a friend while you’re there. I like friends.

The evening is a part of the Drinking Skeptically network. Go to drinkingskeptically.org to find or start an event near you!

But seriously, New Englanders — we need to show those Chicago kids how it’s done.

  1. Oof. I'd love to see Dawkins, but I'll have spent the rest of that week in Hawaii. (For a funeral, so don't get too jealous.) I doubt I'd enjoy packing myself into a Greyhound or something so soon after that 12-hour flight.

  2. As Facebook (an authority on all things social) notes, I've already accepted the invitation to this Skeptics in the Pub dealie. So I will be there with bells on.

Well, not literally. I don't have any bells and can't even stand change jingling in my pockets.

And Blake: That Dawkins thing sounds interesting. I may be in NYC that weekend anyway, but can't be sure due to money (and specifically my lack thereof). But if I'm there, count me in.

  3. Let's see, a merely second city versus the Hub of the Universe. Chicago doesn't have a prayer–or a realistic chance, either.

  4. Blake, thanks for pointing that out. It's free too! But it's first come first serve, so I don't know what the line would be like, but it's on a Saturday.

Boston thing sounds fun, but too far for a Monday night that includes drinking. :-/
