Hey Alaskans! (I know there are a few of you)
Blue Collar Scientist has informed me that he is organizing a meet-up for Anchorage skeptics on March 20 at a Barnes & Noble. Details here!
The huge recent increase in skeptical events and meet-ups has been fabulous, I must say. I’ve pretty much always been pro-meatspace meet-up since I first met the other New England-area skeptics back in 2004. Writerdd wrote a great post about why these events are important, and it’s so cool to now see other prominent sites jumping on board to promote them.
All this activity has reminded me that a long time ago I started a Flickr photo group for people to post pics of skeptics and skeptical events. If you’re on Flickr and want to contribute, go right ahead!
Thank you, Rebecca, for helping us promote this event! We will toast with lattes in your honor.
Other prominent sites? Like this one?
Geez, first it was the love for Neil Tyson, and now this. Sigh.
Uh, Phil, I linked to you in the post. Silly astronomer!
bcs: no problem!
Last fall Jim Lippard wrote a great post on the factors that have led to the rapid growth of the Pentecostal church — personal interaction and participation. We skeptics and secularists have much to learn from this example with these social groups are a step in that direction. Here’s Jim’s full post: http://lippard.blogspot.com/2007/11/rise-of-pentecostalism-and-economist.html
And not to forget http://drinkingskeptically.org !
Yay! Thank you for the heads-up.
AHA! My browser put “other” and “prominent” on two lines, so it looked like one link.
I should never have doubted you! I have faith in you now! Why oh why was I skeptical?
Oh, right.
