Anti-Science

Why not let Ben Stein know how you feel?

Gawker just published a huge list of e-mail addresses for celebs, pseudo-celebs, pundits, and whatnot (someone at Fox News doesn’t know the difference between a cc and a bcc!). One lucky addressee is Ben Stein, who receives mail at the shockingly simple address of [email protected]. It occurred to me that some of you might want to correct him on any inconsistencies that might appear in his anti-science documentary Expelled, which is due to release in February. You can see a preview over on Pharyngula.

  1. Oh boy. Well, I'm sure my scientist husband will watch this (and be outraged) but somehow I don't think Stein's prediction that he'll lose tenure or be fired will come to pass… I just don't get the persecution mentality. Scientists losing their job for being unscientific? Egads! The director of science at the Texas Education Agency was fired, allegedly for displaying a bias against creationism in the classroom, so apparently this scientific/religious persecution works both ways. I fear for my kid's education. I hope we're not fighting the Flat-Earth theory again by the time she's in high school.

  2. I could email Ben Stein and make an eloquent, precise criticism of his movie, but the best case scenario is that he writes me back and drones on and on and on with inanities and retarded "arguments" and fatuous reasoning that will make my brain hate me and pack its sexy thong and crawl out my ear and fly to Hawai'i to surf and play in the sand.

I like my brain right where it is, thank you.

  3. Ben Stein will write you back and say

"What a fool you are. The movie is not even completed yet and you have not seen it."

A statement that does not negate the fact that he lied to numerous people and is just nuts.

  4. I would assume that "a precise criticism" entails at least having seen the movie. In other words, BigHeathenMike is apparently planning to go see it.

Either that or he's going to criticise the preview …

  5. I applaud people who can watch these things and write solid critiques. They trigger me too much and my husband wouldn't enjoy watching with me yelling at the tv the whole time….

  6. Ben Stein's participation in this whole sorry affair is living proof that smart people can still believe stupid things. I'll put him in the same file folder as Arthur Conan Doyle and Edgar Mitchell
