Skeptic Event in Denver

I just found out that some folks from the Denver Skeptics Meetup are putting together the first skeptics gathering of its kind, one in which attendees provide the content — content on topics related to science, critical thinking and those many subjects that both fascinate and infuriate skeptics as ourselves.

Like the wildly successful Barcamp format upon which it is based, they expect that this will be first of other skepticamps that will occur in cities around the country and perhaps even the world. For example, Maria of http://www.masala-skeptic.com is quite intrigued. She lives in Atlanta.

If you live in or around Denver, please stop by. If you would like to present or lead a talk, so much the better. That is what skepticamp is all about.

The inaugural event is at the Tivoli in Denver on Sat Aug 4th with a pre-party the evening before. Plenty of details at the site: http://barcamp.org/SkeptiCamp.

Update: I’ll be doing a session called “My journey from born-again Christian to skeptic in 10,000 easy steps”, where I’ll be reading from my book-in-progress and discussing my escape from fundamentalism.

Donna Druchunas is a freelance technical writer and editor and a knitwear designer. When she's not working, she blogs, studies Lithuanian, reads science and sci-fi books, mouths off on atheist forums, and checks her email every three minutes. (She does that when she's working, too.) Although she loves to chat, she can't keep an IM program open or she'd never get anything else done.

  1. Great to know. I live in Aurora. Too bad it's a little too late, as I've already signed up for the March of Dimes Mudd Volleyball event on that Saturday. I'd love to get more involved with Denver skepticism. Perhaps you can find me on myspace. http://www.myspace.com/serialfish. Thanks again.

  2. serialfish: you're still welcome to attend the pre-party on the Friday night prior to the event
