I made it to Round Two!

Whoa. A few weeks ago I asked you all to go through the trouble of registering on the Public Radio Talent Quest web site to listen to my two-minute intro and vote for me. Well, apparently you did it in droves, because out of nearly 1,500 entrants, I was chosen to be one of ten to move forward to the next round.

Thank you!!

Now I’m just waiting for Round Two to start. At this moment, I have a 30% chance of winning my own public radio show. Insanity! You can check out the other winners on the Talent Quest site. Give them a listen — I think they’re all great choices, and I’m confidant that no matter who wins, we’ll get some fascinating new voices on the air.

Stay tuned — I’m going to need your help again if I have any hope of getting to Round Three!

  1. Wow. And I didn't even know about this, so I didn't vote. his time … 8)

  2. Yeah, congratulations! And I didn't even have to "fix" the Florida vote!

  3. Huzzah! Congrats, Rebecca!

If you do win, it looks like I'll have to buy myself a radio. Or build one. SwapFest is coming up soon, after all. ;)

Seriously, though, I hope you do get the show. Not just because you're totally rockin' awesome, but we definitely need some more skeptical voices reaching out to the public.

  4. If you win, that will seem like a conspiracy, lol.

I will listen tho. Try to make an informed choice.

    Good luck to all.

I'll agree skeptics provide some of the checks and balances in a democracy.

  5. Thanks, guys! Jon, of the ten of us moving to Round Two, three will win the cash and get to pitch a show to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. That organization will then decide which shows will be produced.

  6. thanks rebecca. somehow i got the idea that there were 3 people going through, so couldn't figure out where 30% came from…

  7. Congrats, Rebecca, and may you vanquish your foes in the next round with your superior might and all of the awesome fury Skepchickdom brings to bear!

And remember: Skeptical film guy here available after September for all of your radio needs :-P

  8. Way to go Rebecca. I'm pleased to hear the great news and hope you make it to "the big show".

I started listening to SGU podcasts shortly after getting my first ipod for Christmas 2006. I started with the current ones and then went back and listened to them from the beginning while waiting for the new episode to post each week. I remember when the guys first had you as a guest. I was grinning from ear to ear, knowing you would soon be a regular. Not that the guys aren't interesting. You were just such a great addition to the show.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help — and I hope your Mac feels better soon.

  9. Hooray! I forgot to vote, but I'll try to be a little more helpful in the next round.

  10. gosh objectiviley speaking the competion is stiff

You are certainly the best looking, lol. Your speech is funny but kind of short on substance. Well, I suppse thats cos i don't have a beer in my house.

Still the Bee person probably has the best radio voice.

In terms of content, I liked two of the guys but you do actually talk about quite alot of substance.

Gosh, I really don't know who is the best. I do know that I LOVE MPR. In fact, i'd say its the best american news source but its not wide spread enough.

  11. Oh, you know I'm down with that, bug_girl.

Thanks everybody for the support and links and all! Yee haw!
