Happy New Year!
Well, I was hoping to have a really good year-ending blog entry for you all, but the social obligations of the season (combined with the fact that my space bar is sticking, making typing really frustrating) have jumped in the way. Thank you all for an amazing year. I get so much inspiration, humor, and education from you guys, making something incredibly rewarding, which may otherwise have been a chore. I hope you all have a happy and safe New Year’s Eve.
Happy New Year to you, too, Rebecca! Thanks for all you're efforts this past year. Wishing you all the best in 2007.
Best regards,
Mike
Suck ups.
-insert joke bad here-
The world is just a little bit better, because of you.
S'okay its the same here.
I didn’t even get laid. This year started out just like all the others: very promising, but lacking in realization :x
By the way:
Happy New Year everyone 8)
(Ugh, I’m too drunk to be posting right now. See you in the morning).
…
Happy New Year all!
I bothered to go to the 'celebrations' in London, which consisted of getting off at Embankment tube station expecting a nice clear view of the river, only to be shunted into a giant crowd by the police and made to follow signs to 'All Fireworks Viewing Areas.' This, of course, led everyone onto Strand and into a bigger crowd, where I believe everyone was pushed, shoved, and squeezed constantly until about midnight, when we all realized that, naturally, there was absolutely no chance of seeing any fireworks THROUGH all of the buildings between us and the river. So the organization there was spot on.
And that was better than my traditional New Years of staying home and watching nearly the full two days of the Sci Fi channel's Twilight Zone marathon HOW, exactly? :-P
They cancelled the fireworks in the city I was planning to go see them. Probably because of the windy weather.
We went there last year, and despite being only a tiny group amid a mass of total strangers, it was a very amicable experience, with everyone bringing their own bottle of champagne and toasting with the complete strangers around them at the strike of midnight.
Fuggit. I went to bed at 20:30, like always, and slept through until 05:00!
Can’t be bothered with all this revelling stuff! I was comfortably in bed with a Carl Sagan tome!
Happy New Year, everyone!
I played games with friends, drank some beer and champagne, debated the definition of various geology terms with a couple of good friends, and then watched movies until early in the morning.
Later this morning, I walked home from the bus in the downpouring freezing rain. Not my favorite weather, but overall a good start to the New Year, overall.
I'm headed down to my place in Cape Cod to do research for a week. Since my place down there is ancient and has no internet access, my posts may be a little more sporadic for a week.
Godt nytt år!
I spent the evening wandering around Jamaica Plain trying to find a bar. There were none. What the Hell? One had an $18 cover, another was closed for a private party, another was just plain closed… On New Year’s Eve, no less!
Fortunately, I had a bottle of Emergency Whiskey saved for just such an occasion, so it all worked out in the end.

That bit about the little icon goes for me, too. I never saw a chicken, exactly, but I definitely had no idea that it was a foot. I think I just saw it is a bit of design and never pareidolia'd it into anything at all!
Yeah, maybe a new favicon wouldn't be a bad thing …
I spent the evening at a party at a friends house, writing on post-it notes in lieu of being able to talk (stupid throat of mine). Always fun to be miming at people and then they decide to mime back rather than just speak before realising they’re allowed to and it’s not a game!
Also, I only just realised that the little favicon.ico for skepchick.org is not, in fact, a chicken, but a woman’s foot and shoe. My New Year’s Resolution should be to be more observant…
Truth: that is my mother's foot. I took the picture… it's from last year's Skepchick Calendar.
So, does anyone have a better suggestion for something to use as the skepchick logo? Something sciency, skeptical, female, … but also recognisable from a distance or really small?
Because apparently it's not that obvious …
