Things are moving forward with the new SGU website.  I have selected someone to help me organize this project and we should be asking for programming help very soon.  To those of you who have emailed and anyone else interested in helping I would like to make this forum thread the place where we communicate.

I need a skilled Flash developer to help with some ideas we have for the site.  If possible anyone with solid flash skills(and bowhunting skills) please contact me asap so I can get you in on a meeting I have planned for tonight at 8:30 EST.

Thanks everyone

Anyone interested in submitting a web design for the new site please let me know here.  I'll post the details and requirements in this thread soon.

It would be great to get ideas from many people so everyone feel free to post your ideas, designs and feedback here.  If you intend to put a lot of time into a design let me know first so we can talk over the details.

Thanks all

Hi Skeptics,

Without going into too many unnecessary details I have a job which for several months involved bottom-up web design. During this time I was thinking about how I'd re-design the SGU site given the chance. I didn't have time to do a huge amount or really finish everything but I thought anyone involved in the website re-design (which I understand is still in the works?) might get some ideas from what I came up with.

Hey Jay (and everyone else),

I would be happy to help out when I can. I am currently the Web and Multimedia Manager for the Phoenix Suns. I run the video department on Suns.com, as well as update the site regularly.

I do not have a lot of programming experience, per se, but I'm well-versed in html coding, as well as online video production and photoshop.

As the NBA playoffs have just begun, and despite our Game 1 loss, I am hoping to be supremely busy for the next couple of months, but am willing to help when I can. Please let me know what I can do to help.

Thanks and GO SUNS,

Steve

I am a .net programmer with experience in asp.net, SQL etc.
I do not have Flash.
What sorts of skills are you looking for.
I have been studying Ajax in the last few days.

Jay,

I just got your email about wanting to know who all is still interested in working on the site. I'm not too great with flash animation and GUI design but I know some ActionScript and could design the XML and any server-side (ASP.NET/VB.NET) code for the navigation.

Also, if you have any database stuff I'm your man.

Does anyone like the idea of using an accordion to accomplish some of the navigation? Or are we just considering a vertical/horizontal menu?

I am willing to consider any ideas right now.  Everyone please feel free post all your ideas here. Nothing is written in stone yet so now is the time.  If you make suggestions that are visual, try to find an example and supply the link or an image.   This way we all can see more clearly what you are talking about.

I'd be happy to help out as well.  I'm a web designer from Victoria, BC and have a lot of experience with CSS/XHTML/JS and integrating with CMSs as well (specifically Wordpress and Expression Engine).

Here is my portfolio: http://lukees.com/work

If I have time, I'll post a possible site mockup.

Hey guys. I am a multimedia designer from Monterey CA and can help out with any Flash work needed. Not so much of a database/backend guy but I do a lot of user interface stuff.  Also can help out with any CSS/design/layout needs.

Here's some of my current stuff....

I also do a lot of video production/motion graphics, just in case.

Any way I could help out, glad to do it!

Any chance of getting a sneak peek at the new logo? It'd be nice to see what we might be designing around.

@pantone204

I checked out the links to the sites using Flash and they look great, truly amazing. I've been self-educating on Flash recently so that I would have some idea about what goes into putting that kind of stuff together (I've been using SwishMax's 30 day trial). Unfortunately I haven't gotten edumacated enough yet to answer the following example.

The question I have for you is are you skilled enough to generate a streaming media (audio only) player and have it all drive off a database of some kind. For example, you would pull the current podcast (or a list of podcasts) from a data file (XML/RSS/Webservice/straight SQL server hit like ADO.NET/whatever), use that information to populate the Flash movie.

Look at wastrel's excellent example above, for the Latest Show #133 could you pull all that information from database, including when you click the Play button it would stream from an audio file.

By the way, I'm Jeremy Diller from Jay's email.
