Skepchicon 2010

Skepchicon plans are now pretty solid, and we hope you’ll join us for a fun and educational (and fun) weekend in the Twin Cities. We have tipped our fundraising campaign over at The Point (w00t!). Thanks again to all of you for your generous donations. Further contributions can be directed to the Skepchicon section of the Women Thinking Free website. Remember, all contributions, both to the Point campaign and to WTF are tax deductible.

The programming schedule is now up on the Convergence website, so you can start planning out your weekend paneling. We’ve opted to stick with one party theme this year, and have decided to move this party to the Skepchick SpaceshipTM, so wear your favorite out of this world gear. I’m pleased to announce that we’ve formed an alliance with Celebration Generation Cakes for your snacking pleasure. I hear Marie is working in her evil mad science kitchen as we speak to create a Buzzed Aldrin cake flavor, just for the occasion. Bwahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaa…

There is also something quite intriguing and unusual happening at Convergence this year. It’s not connected to Skepchicon per se, but very much matches our goals relating to public outreach and science education. You can be part of a collaborative, publicly written comic book that will tell the story of an amazing scientific discovery by a regular person. Astronomer and science communicator extraordinaire Pamela Gay and author Kelly McCullough are teaming up to spearhead this effort. It should make for an exciting collaboration. More information can be found here.

Vital Info:

The event takes place July 1-4, 2010 at the Sheraton Bloomington Hotel, Bloomington, MN.

Preregistration has now ended. Memberships can be purchased at the door.

When the Sheraton fills up, and it will, the very nice Hotel Sofitel is right next door and will honor Con rates. In the event that the Sofitel fills up, these additional hotels are located within half a mile of the Sheraton (listed in order of distance, closest first):
Days Inn Bloomington
Crowne Plaza
Hilton Garden Inn
La Quinta Inn & Suites
Country Inn & Suites

For those of you also attending TAM8 (which is the weekend after our event) who will be in Minneapolis for a few days before heading to Vegas, Skepspouse Tim3P0 will be organizing gatherings around town to keep you entertained. Feel free to contact him through his Facebook page with any questions or suggestions.

You can also join the Skepchicon Facebook group to meet up with other attendees and stay updated as we hammer out more details.

Thanks, and see you there!

The Sheraton is already full, and has been for some time. However, I had no trouble getting a room at the Sofitel.

For some bizarre reason, a room with two queen beds is cheaper than a room with a single king.
So if anyone needs it, I have a spare bed. I booked at the Sofitel from Friday ’till Monday. On Wednesday and Thursday night I’ll be across the road in the cheaper Days Inn (because for yet another bizarre reason, weeknights are almost twice as expensive as the weekend?)
Same thing there though: two queen beds. I’m baffled …

I think it’s because it’s more difficult to have an orgy on two queens than one king.

But….I have no evidence to support that hypothesis. Perhaps you can gather some for us?

@bug_girl, the two queens allow you to split/divide the orgy across two beds and alternate between them. Clearly, the hotel is encouraging you to have larger orgies …

By the way, the donation thingy doesn’t work for me as I’m neither from the US or Canada.
