Books to read in 2007

Hi all. I didn’t make it to TAM5. I passed through Las Vegas on Thursday night en route from California to Colorado, but I was so pooped that I passed out at 8:30 and slept for 11 hours, after which it was back on the road ASAP, so I’m loving the posts about the conference, and saying so has given me a chance to be devious and attach this message to the TAM5 category. No rotten tomatoe... »

Blogging TAM5

I slept in late this morning and wandered into my office around noon. I know, I know… I’m a lazy graduate student. I went directly to the petrology lab, however, and spent a steady eight hours, with smal... »

Rebecca’s TAM5 Report, Part I

I have 1,282 new emails. I smell. My apartment smells worse. I have no food. I’m bitterly cold from the trip from the airport. I haven’t had a proper night of rest in a week. All this can mean only one thing: I’m a lazy slob. Also, the Amaz!ng Meeting 5 has come to an end. For those of you living in a convent, the Amaz!ng Meeting is an annual conference focused on science and ske... »

Home grown

The NRA recently developed a mini-graphic novel, featuring some…well, fairly wacky claims. The first thing I noticed was that all the threatened families were white, and all the bad people in the vignettes weren’t. The second thing that struck me, though, was this illustration: Hairy legs, tattoos, and Birkenstocks=terrorism! (Also–land lobsters? WTF?) Anyway, this hits a repeate... »
